Seahawks Reveal 2016-17 Non-Conference Slate

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – A visit to one of the nation's storied women's basketball programs and six home games highlight the 2016-17 UNCW women's basketball non-conference schedule.

"We have a very competitive non-conference schedule which will challenge our team early, but also prepare us for league play," fifth-year Head Coach Adell Harris said.

The Seahawks begin the 2016-17 campaign by hosting Norfolk State on Friday, Nov. 11, before hitting the road for a pair of contests at East Carolina (Nov. 16) and former Colonial Athletic Association rival Georgia State (Nov. 20).

UNCW returns to Trask Coliseum during the Thanksgiving weekend to welcome Providence, La Salle and Miami (Ohio) for the UNCW Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic. The Seahawks will face Providence on Saturday, Nov. 26, before wrapping up the weekend against La Salle on Sunday, Nov. 27.

After making a trip to Davidson on Nov. 30, the Seahawks will break for exams before traveling to N.C. State for an in-state match-up against the Wolfpack on Dec. 11 at Reynolds Coliseum. It will be the Seahawks' first visit to Raleigh since the 2011-12 season.

The Seahawks return to Trask Coliseum to open a three-game homestand on Thursday, Dec. 15, with their annual "Seahawks Tomorrow" game against Furman at 11:30 a.m. The home stint will also feature visits from Wofford (Dec. 17) and Catawba (Dec. 19).

Following the Christmas holiday break, UNCW completes its non-conference circuit on Dec. 29 by visiting Tennessee for the first time. The Lady Vols, who reached the NCAA Elite Eight last year, have captured eight national championships and won at least a share of the Southeastern Conference title 17 times.

The remainder of the regular season schedule, including the CAA slate, will be announced later.

Jimmy Garrity is now the HC at Wofford-could be interesting.
