Troy picked up a graduate transfer from North Carolina this weekend. Troy Defensive Coordinator Vic Koenning recruited and coached him while at North Carolina.

"He is a freak of nature physically, but the best part of Junior is the type of young man he is," Koenning said.

"If he doesn't come in here and play like an all-conference player and put himself in position for that type of recognition after the season, then I will be disappointed," Koenning said. "I've set a pretty high bar for him, but that is why he is coming here. He is coming here because he trusts me, and he believes getting back in this system gives him a great opportunity to move on to the next level."

Troy picking up some transfer talent recently.

Had heard some rumors of him coming to App State. Interesting that he ends up at another SBC school. Very nice pick up.

Junior Gnonkonde started for North Carolina in 2015, so it looks like we aren't getting a third string guy who couldn't hack it. Keep in mind North Carolina was the #1 most improved defense in the country. At 6-4, 260, he will be a force in the SBC.

Poor SBC quarterbacks... they have no idea what they are in for this year against Troy.

Hopefully he realizes he will actually need to attend class and more than likely won't have advisors doing work for him at Troy.

I'm not sure that matters. Unless you're thinking of someone else, he will play one semester at Troy. Since he graduated from UNC, he won't have issues being academically eligible. Even if he fails all of his classes at Troy they can't retroactively rule him ineligible and issue Troy a penalty.

2016 could be a very good year for Troy. Looking at the roster, we should return nearly everyone. 18 to 20 returning starters and year three for Coach Brown will be interesting. I think we're a year away from being big shots again, but we should still show marked improvement this year.

We have a 1st Team All-SBC guy (Rashad Dillard) at the other DE spot, and a 4-Star West Virginia Transfer (Sam Lebbie) from a couple years ago also at DE/BANDIT. We should be among the SBC's top pass rushers.

Familiar with Dillard. He was an App State commit all the way until signing day...

I'll take you up on that if I'm in Boone anytime soon. What's the scoop on Junior Gnonkonde? You seem to have a high opinion of him. I only know what I've been able to gather on the internet.

Just been following ever since I heard rumors of App State taking a look at him. He's a good player, as referenced by his TFL numbers. I'm not sure if it's the DWI earlier this year that turned us off, or if it just didn't work out.

Our DC Vic Koenning was his DC at North Carolina for three years before Chizik took over. That may have been the deciding factor.

He visited App numerous times, but some things just didn't work out.

Defense should be pretty good this season. Everything hinges on the offensive line, as to how successful Troy will be this year.

I am very familiar this kid and he's gonna have an immediate impact for Troy on the defensive side of the ball. I remember specifically he had a blocked FG against East Carolina and forced a fumble at Georgia Tech to setup the game winning TD. He was torn between App St and Troy but the relationship with his old DC lured him to Troy. I can't believe Georgia Southern snoozed on this one.
