RE: Either BYU is out or Big12 is expanding by 4 according to Aresco
The other possible reading of this is purely tentative... Aresco has confirmed with schools that, yes they would accept if invited to the Big12, but no decisions have been made, and he is simply saying that he is preparing for a likely scenario which involves more than 1 school, since more than 1 school clearly wants to go.
But everyone will want to read more into what might not be there.

I agree. I don't see anything newly revealing in what Aresco said. He stated the obvious. The B12 has announced they will expand. Clearly the B12 will get its candidates from the AAC or BYU. Nothing more to it. And unlike some, I also don't think Aresco has any credible inside information as to whom those AAC schools are. Instead he has an opinion and input from AAC members who say they are pursuing B12 membership. After all, the B12 doesn't even seem to know who they are inviting or how many. Sure, the individual B12 schools each have their A list of schools they want but when it comes to voting to invite schools, the B12 has long demonstrated an inability to get 8 affirmative votes for most any major decision. Examples in the area of conference expansion include the inability to include Louiseville when they had opportunity or to create a conference network. Instead the B12 has allowed UT with its Texas lackies to control the B12 for the benefit of TX (see NE, CO, aTm & MO exit). And I would not be surprised when it is all said & done that the B12, with its inability to reach consensus, will only invite two schools. And this because the current members won't be able to get 8 affirmative votes for 4 or 6 invitations - even though this clearly appears to be a cash grab by the members & 4 or 6 new members would increase their collective take the most.
In summary dysfunction will likely win the day as it has historically with the B12 - and leave several deserving schools very disappointed.
