Brando used to do Tiger basketball games in the MSC and has stayed friends with many in the Athletic Dept. over the years. A good guy, too.

Good catch TigerCity.

Here's the link: http://gridironnow.com/big-12-expansion-...im-brando/

Part that applies to Memphis:

Here is my new look Big 12: Bowlsby’s first move (in my opinion) is to BYU. The only hindrance is scheduling because of the school’s religious affiliation (no Sunday games), but working around it shouldn’t be a problem. Once you move to the Mountain Time zone, you need another school that is a geographic fit. I love the advances made in Fort Collins and Colorado State is really well supported. Get CSU as the 12th team.

Now it’s here where the Big 12 should pivot and become proactive and go to 14 teams. Fans need to understand that at this point, TV markets and financial backing really counts. Texas needs to allow Houston to join. If that doesn’t happened, you get Fred Smith at Federal Express on the phone and see if his commitment to Memphis is real. If the answer is “yes,” take the Tigers as number 13. Ideally, Houston and Memphis are the choices.

Good to have support, but we don't need the CSU train to pick up speed. If the Big 12 goes 2 west and 2 east, obviously there is more competition in our neck of the woods.

Colorado State? What? That doesn't make a lick of sense. CSU is a long-shot #3 in its own market (behind the Broncos and the Buffaloes) and they have a stadium with a CAPACITY of 34,400 and they can't even come close to filling it....even when Sonny Lubick was going great there.

If we were to lose out to CSU, that would be extremely depressing.

True, but building a $220M on campus stadium makes a hell of a statement. And Texas in particular favors the land grant schools over the city schools. And the Big 12 has history in the state.

In the end, don't think CSU gets in, but I do believe CSU is one of the final 8 schools.

taking CSU is admitting the Pac12 is better than the Big12, something the Big12 is unlikely to do

Getting a team poached by the P12 already publicly proved that.

Yep

At this point the Big 12 is fighting the ACC, a traditional basketball league for the 4th spot

Colorado State doesn't bring you a market. It BARELY brings you the Fort Collins market.

The only reason they're building an OCS is because their outdated one is off-campus and owned by the city/county. They can't regularly fill it now (33K) and they're not going to fill their 41K new one in 2017 and beyond. Even the townies/non-alum people there don't care.

I suppose, but Colorado has proven that they aren't committed to athletics. Not much of a loss. Colorado State might prove to be a better option than the Buffs anyway.
