AAC Media Contract
Does anyone happen to remember what happens to the media contract when specific schools leave the conference? I seem to recall that schools were sorted into tiers based on value, and the contract stays intact as long as we lose no more than one school from the top tier or no more than two schools from the second tier. Which schools are in each tier, and how many can we lose from each to keep the contract intact?

Something to the effect of if 2 tier 1 teams (cincy and UConn?) leave (before renegotiation?), the current deal is null and void.
If one tier 1 and one tier 2 school leaves, I believe they can still renegotiate. I don't remember for sure, though ( although, I'm pretty sure Cincy and UConn were tier 1)

That's what I was thinking too. I don't think there are any G5 (or FCS, OR D-II, OR D-III, OR NAIA, OR football upstarts, just in case DavidSt is reading this) schools that the AAC can reload with to come anywhere close to the current media payout or compete with the Mountain West.

RE: AAC Media Contract
The media rights deal can be terminated if either two Group A schools leave or one Group A and one Group B school leave. If two Group B schools leave, the contract will be renegotiated, sources said. This does not include any schools that already have announced they are leaving, such as Louisville, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh or Syracuse.

The group A schools are Cincy, Uconn, Houston and Temple. Everyone else is group B.

The AAC can add value with a football only Army invite (national following and an institutional legacy, plus the Army/Navy game, which I'm sure brings in tens of millions of dollars). They can also bring in prestigious AAU members with huge billion dollar endowments like Rice and Buffalo, plus a flagship state institution like Umass (which has bball history). These teams may not have the on field success right now, but they have the financial means to invest in making it happen.

I like how Temple leapfrogged USF and Houston leapfrogged SMU and Memphis (this was before Houston and Temple's recent success).

If what's floating around is true about UH, Memphis, and Cincinatti then, the contract may be in trouble.

I'm not talking about on field performance wise.
I'm just saying USF had been a Big East member for almost a decade and kicked out Temple is bumped up to tier 1 status?
Same thing with Houston. Yes, they had that 12-1 season, in which they lost the CUSA championship to USM, but they came into the BE at the same time as SMU and Memphis.

I think "may be" is highly optimistic.

Exactly the article I was looking for - I didn't think to search for Big East instead of AAC. Thanks!
If it doesn't work out with BYU, I wonder if the Big XII goes after Temple. NBC obviously thought they more valuable than the rest of the conference, and they would bridge the gap between WVU and UConn. Money talks!

I think "may be" is highly optimistic.
There is no guarantee there will be an addition (although it is most likely) of even two teams, let alone four. I sill think Boise is a very strong candidate, since they are viewed as p5 level, just like BYU. The only reason they haven't been officially acknowledged as such, is because they are in a p5 conference. If the BIG 12 expands, it will most likely be by two and thus, BYU and Boise will be chosen. So, most likely, the conference looking for a filler will be the MWC, not the AAC. They will obviously pull the trigger on independent New Mexico State, but this will only devalue the MWC's contract even further, now that Boise jumped ship.

If UConn leaves, the contract is in trouble. If UConn stays, I think the contract will pretty much stay the same.
