question from a Vol on Memphis and big 12

It's a basketball city and a football city.
Putting a baseball club here would be like putting a second NFL team in Dallas. Nobody would care.
As opposed to Nashville is my point. It's a much bigger baseball city.

There are no cities that will realistically get an MLB franchise by relocation anytime soon, and it certainly wouldn't be Nashville.
San Juan maybe.
Don't sleep on Nashville. It is being discussed. I don't expect it within the next 3 years - but very possible within the next 5-10 years.
My money is on MLB.
I have not heard anything about MLB in Nashville. Now or in the future.
In 5 years I think we have a MLS team. That's been in the works for several years. They will start with a 2nd or 3rd tier with intentions to grow it to the MLS like Orlando did.
Btw, I work in sports.

You should listen to Megan Barry, Karl Dean, Jeff Cogen, and The Tennessean staff.

I can still buy that for Nashville over an MLB club. Much more so. They aren't expanding and nobody seems to be moving, either.
Agreed. It's getting saturated. Nashville would support a MLS team over MLB. It's easier to support the MLS over the MLB. Not to mention, Nashville is a transplant city and not a big baseball city. Memphis is a much better baseball city.
Also, the Sounds just built a new stadium.
as did Charlotte
I don't keep up with baseball or Charlotte, are they in the running to get a team?
I work in professional sports in Nashville and not heard anything that is remotely serious about a team here.
I don't have a dog in the fight. I don't care about baseball. I'm just stating my opinion as someone who is surrounded and talks about pro sports in Nashville everyday all day.
Could I be wrong, sure. All I know as fact is that a professional soccer team in Nashville is very serious about a team here.

Memphis is a tremendous Cardinals city. They had a great run of attendance a decade ago. But Redbirds attendance is on the decline. And without the Cards, they wouldn't be in the discussion.
Nashville was the first minor league city below AAA to draw 500k in a season - and they did it back in the 70's. Nashville has hit 500k in 4 different decades. They see some dips, but attendance comes back. I think this speaks to being a historical baseball city.
One independent expansion study had Nashville at #10 on the potential cities list. Memphis did not make the cut. SI had similar results. However, most say expansion will go international next. 5-10 years out, who knows?

Fair enough. You brought the facts. The Sounds do seem to be having good attendance this year.
I think it would be hard for any city with multiple pro teams and being as small as Nashville/Memphis support MLB prices and # of games.
Then again, is Nashville continues on this growth for the next 10 years that could change everything.
I do think MLB going international would be cool.
Who knows? Memphis is about to go to the Big 12 lol.
