But if NIU is in, welcome.
Not technically, but there have been hints NIU is one of the leading (if not leading) candidates. Our AD is hosting AAC reps at the Chitown Showdown in Chicago against Toledo this year at US Cellular Field. I can't help but feel that kind of says something

Then just keep the decision makers off campus. I've traveled college campuses the country over, and NIU has to be the most drab and boring campus I've ever seen. No offense, it just is what it is.
When was the last time you visited? NIU is currently undergoing a campus wide renovation and our master plan even outlines further campus renovations to create a more "big time state school" feel to it. Not really all that fair to hold a dated image of the school and judge based on that

If you're interested in seeing the changes. I can post the athletics facilities changes and stadium renovation info if you're interested

It wasn't the stadium. It was the dorms, campus layout, and town. I just didn't like the layout or architecture.

The campus is very much a hodgepodge of buildings. They are trying to rectify that somewhat. And the towers, Grant and Stevenson, look like drab hospital buildings to me. And Zulaaf hall is a monstrosity. But I didn't go there for aesthetics.

Yeah, the renovations are sorely needed

Last time we played, it was embarrassing for NIU fans.
Yea, one game, when you had a record-setting QB and ours had less than a year of starting under his belt. How come you keep losing to Ohio? Ohio hasn't been good enough to even win their division in the MAC.
Okay .. Please understand that I know you are just responding to FlyHawk... But what's your excuse for 1999 and 2001?
And Ohio is a rival game.. Toledo and wmu.. Ring a bell for you? They matched up well against us and gave us fits.. No excuses.. The better team won that night... Lest you forget that we clobbered ou in 2014.... Oh.. Qb.. Right? They are a solid team.. Big and physical... Much respect for them...
Your argument is a moot point because it has nothing to do with us vs you... If you get into the AAC then awesome for you... Seriously.. Good stuff... But your attendance flat out sucks.. And your basketball is God awful...
Ask Stay Cool... I am not bashing NIU at all.. I rooted my ass off for you guys.. But like everyone says to us.. Can't live in the glory days... And they are right..
But good luck to you all...
The onlything you're wrong about right now is our bball. 20+ win season and post season play and we have one of the best recruiting classes in the MAC and a team primarily of underclassmen. Team is clearly on the rise and has high expectations this year. Other than that, can't argue much
Also toledo and WMU don't call us rivals =/

Fair enough sir! Granted, I'm a football junkie.. Despite the fact that I officiate high school bb..admittedly, I haven't followed the Mac with exception of the teams that have given us a giant headache....
Forgive me for my ignorance of NIU mbb.
They went 17-12 with an RPI of 136.
To put it in perspective, we went 17-16 with an RPI of 128.
So no, their basketball is nothing special, just like ours isn't right now.
Only difference is we average about 5 times more than they do for basketball.

None of these schools offer a compelling market (notwithstanding NIU location since they don't bring that market). So look beyond the surface, has anyone looked at Ark St lately? Their fan support equals or exceeds (in the case of WKU, MTSU) these schools & they have substantial growth potential. And what about ODU if market really matters?
It's not about bringing the market... it's about offering access to the market. AAC games plastered all over the #3 DMA

I thought this was about football. If you look at the top college football markets data a different picture emerges.

I mean, NIU is always down to talk football success too...

Unless of course they are comparing football success to Marshall.
