Everyone has this suggestion... are you all even sure Army WANTS to join the AAC? They value their independence and plus if they join a conference with Navy it will seriously devalue the Army/Navy game held annually... soooooo yeah, there's that

army wants to join but doesnt think it can be competitive...but they know its possible becuase navy/air force does it

they dont value Independence, they just dont think they are ready to compete yet

and a collective bargaining increases value not decrease ...the army navy game will be worth 8 million by itself by 2018 (the entire mac deal, half the current mwc)...and with collective bargaining you leverage your most valued thing to increase the value for everything, if you want the most historic game in college, the only game that airs that week and an american treasure you give us a great deal on every thing else

think of it like with athletes, with or without a collective bargain lebron is getting paid...with a players union lebron gathers with every player and says he wont play unless everyone gets paid. lebron will still get him money but now you have to pay #8 man off the bench 3 million a year

I think if we lose Houston the AAC will add another Texas school my bet UTSA
If we also lose UC then I could see reaching out to
1. BYU football only
2. Army for football only
3. Air Force for all sports
4. UMass or ODU

More likely one from #4

i doubt smu will want to be seen as equals to utsa...they have a rivalry with rice.
and tulsa, tulane and navy would likely try and push for a similar minded university

rice has the connections, history and brand that would make them an easy add.. its not so much of what rice brings but that i feel almost everyone in this league wouldnt mind being in a conference with them especially presidents since rice is the #1 academic school in the south

army just joined a conference in c-usa in 2000 and only left because they couldn't compete

to your point "ever" happened already in c-usa... but their AD said when the big east/navy invite happened he'd watch and see what happens but was content at indy

and when they finally joined he said he loved everything about a conference but
"When you look at the physicality that some of those teams offer, it's awful tough for us, week over week"

army isn't in a conference because their administration doesn't think they can win.. thats it

if they won games theyd be here

If Cincinnati & Houston left for the Big 12, you add Army in football and Rice. You stay as a 10-team league in all other sports, you lose out Memphis also then you add UMass. The easiest thing for the American is to move Army vs. Navy from the end of the year game to the opening kickoff game on a Thursday for the College Football season. Just have Army & Navy continue to compete in the West Division.

UTSA? Are you serious??? I sure hope we don't do that. Yuck03-weeping

I can deal w BYU, Army, AF, maybe even UMass if I have to. But the likes of UTSA and ODU are not even on the radar I hope.

Rice?? Why? Their football and basketball are horrible and they have no fans. NO

The solution to that is have Army in the east, Navy in the west, and make the Army-Navy game non-conference (other words, no conference revenue, the two schools keep it, and play their eight conference games independent of this game).

A cool feature that could be added is in the event Army and Navy win their divisions, the Army-Navy game could double as the AAC championship game. I am sure there could be a contract stipulation worked out where if that happens there would be extra revenue to the conference to make it whole.

no offense to you but that's a terrible solution for the conference. what's the benefit to the conference if the conference isn't getting the benefit of the match up?

No prediction here --- but my guess is that the B12 will first try to entice two (2) of Missouri, Texas A&M or Nebraska to return to the league.

No SEC or BIG team is going to the Big 12. The money or network will never be there.

No kidding. The big 12 is the bottom of the p5 food chain. They have to recruit out of the AAC. Enough said...

Army was a member of C-USA with many of the schools that are currently part of the American. With the new liberal recruiting options for Army athletes, they may wish to rejoin a conference.

Who knows, if Army wishes to join? Games at West Point are fun.

If army wants to join? Yes, add them immediately. I agree it's a no brainer. However, the question is IF they wanna join

Army is definitely the team that will get the option of first refusal.

Could the AAC add Army and coax Airforce to join so all three svc academies are in?

Maybe talk to Col St as well? I don't see them making the B12 cut due to the B12 expanding east.
