Chip Brown thinks BYU, Houston, Cincinnati and Memphis lead
From Orange Blood (Texas) was on Vernon today - also, the next guest, a Houston radio guy, said BYU, Houston, Cincinnati and either Memphis or UConn.

Memphis, Cinci, Houston, and UCF/BYU would be quite alright with me.

I have no info at all, but to me BYU is so going to get an invite. They are the one school that brings a football brand to the table. The rest of the slots will be up for grabs. All about even between Memphis, Houston, Cincinnati. I just don't get UConn at all. Boise St. may also be in the mix. JMO.

Brown also said that under the contract the Big 12 could add up to 6 teams and keep the pro rata share at 22 million per team (or whatever it was) --- but he thinks they'll do 4.

BYU has its own Baylor lite rape scandals going on....they've been better about keeping it quiet though. I'm not sure the B12 could pull the trigger on another religious institution with rape issues so close to the Baylor scandal.

Huh. That's a power move. Well, I always figured Houston was on the outside looking in. Not b/c of program quality, the FB team is really good, but rather the duplication of the Texas TV market.

But that is a strong thing for the governor of Texas to say.

Could you imagine the uproar if any of the other candidate had punished the victims of rape on campus for reporting the rapes. They would have been automatically eliminated from contention.

Also have to wonder how much of the Salt Lake City TV market BYU actually has since U of Utah of the Pac 12 is actually in the city.

So Memphis is being raked over the coals because of FedEx trying to "buy our way in" but the governor of Texas can throw his political weight around for Houston inclusion. Okay.

RE: Chip Brown thinks BYU, Houston, Cincinnati and Memphis lead
Totally agree here. I like and respect Abbott but IMO making a statement like this is outside the bounds of proper governance and begs the question "What would he do to prevent expansion if Houston isn't one of the schools?" At least FedEx can make the case that what benefits the University of Memphis benefits the city of Memphis which benefits FedEx, so the money they spend sponsoring BIGXII sports will benefit them in both the short term (increased brand awareness and business) and long term (benefiting the city of their world HQ). Obviously, their $ helps the conference, and it's a voluntary transaction on both sides, so it's a win-win for everybody.

VERY different than the governor of a state threatening to block expansion if his preferred school isn't chosen.

wouldn't it be interesting if the 4 texas schools voted for UH because of politics but the other SIX schools voted NO!

The state of Texas only owns 2 of the 4 B12 Texas schools ,
Baylor and TCU are private .
University of Texas and Texas Tech are State schools.

I'm sure they would vote on Houston first in order to hold leverage against the choices of the outer 6.
