This guy thinks as highly of Rice's team as I do. I have them at the 4 or 5 spot.

What teams that remain for your conference and what order do you think they will appear on this "Madness Basketball list".

IMO, the following should be on the list, however there are only 3 spots that remain for CUSA teams. There will be two on my predicted listed that will not be on this "MBL".

1 Middle Tennessee
2 Old Dominion
3 UAB
4 Western Kentucky
5 La Tech

Already listed
6 Marshall (4) on the list
7 Rice (5) on the list

I just want all three to be in the top 100, whoever they might be.

I don't see how WKU is top four this year. Also, not really sure why you don't see Charlotte improving from 7th last year. ODU and La Tech should both fall off some losing Freeman and Hamilton, both Top 70 players in usage %, and Marshall losing Kelly to a lesser extent. Rice leapfrogging a team that went 3-0 against them and also brings in one of C-USA's top recruit makes zero sense. If Charlottes left out of the top 144 for Rice that's a huge mistake based on the evidence we have.

I think MT, UAB, and WKU are the three left. I bet WKU is the next one up, then UAB, then MT. We have most of our team back this year (surprising but true - seniors were important but not the whole team) and we have Jacorey Williams eligible who transferred from Arkansas. He is almost a guarantee at the starting 4/5 spot.

Agreed. Charlotte is EASILY a top 144. If we don't end up top 75 I will be surprised.

Yeah, Charlotte had Rice's number last year. We probably our worst conference games against the 49ers.

I'm afraid I have to agree. Losing Freeman, Bacote and to a lesser extent Bibaraj will hurt the Monarchs. I think we will gel eventually. But we will feel the pain especially at the beginning of the season. Anytime you have brand new players playing important roles on the team I always tend to be pessimistic.

RE: "Madness" College Basketball 2016-17 Men's Basketball Top 144
Losing Freeman and Baycote from last years team is significant. Even with them ODU seldom got into a scoring contest with the other team. Last year's team like many other ODU teams before them, was built around defense hoping to hold the opposing team to somewhere around the low 60's.

This years ODU team returns their starting front court and replaces the starting back court. Several of the additions that are being added to both areas have college experience, and pretty much across the board are taller, longer, bigger, and more athletic players than those being replaced.

ODU should be a better defensive team, better rebounding team, and better shot blocking team than they were last year. If they can average around 65-66 a game which is about what they averaged last season (I think) then they should be at least as good as they were last year in terms of competitiveness.

I think the following players could/should average at least the following:

B. Stith - 12
D. Taylor - 8
Z. Talley - 12
B. J. Stith - 12
A. Caver - 8

That's 52 points. If the others can average 13-15 points collectively (which I believe is very reasonable) then they should have essentially the same number of points that they had last season. I would be a little bit surprised if ODU does not finish in the top 4 of the conference regardless of what this poll indicates.

On the Bracketolgy side of the countdown, simply filing in the 8 conference Champs from the bottom 8 leagues, obviously eliminates 8 of the 68 spots available.

RE: "Madness" College Basketball 2016-17 Men's Basketball Top 144
College Basketball 2016-17 Men's Basketball Top 144 -1 / Teams predicted rank in Conference

On the Bracketolgy side of the countdown, simply filling in the 8 conference Champs from the bottom 8 leagues, obviously eliminates 8 of the 68 spots available.

All three CUSA teams that remain will be in the top 99, It is still a coin toss who those three will be.
Only 3 of the below teams will be selected, who will be the three on the outside looking in!

1 Middle Tennessee
2 Old Dominion
3 UAB
4 Western Kentucky
5 La Tech
6 Charlotte

The fact is three (3) will be in the Top 99, the other three (3) will not even be considered a team in the top 144....Ouch.

CUSA is receiving very little respect. IMO the 6 listed above could and should have all been in the top 144. There is no way all of those schools should be ranked below many of the teams listed so far on the Madness Top 144 Poll.

RE: "Madness" College Basketball 2016-17 Men's Basketball Top 144

Only 3 of the below teams will be selected, who will be the three on the outside looking in!

1 Middle Tennessee
2 Old Dominion
3 UAB
4 Western Kentucky
5 La Tech
6 Charlotte

The fact is three (3) will be in the Top 99, the other three (3) will not even be considered a team in the top 144....Ouch.
CUSA is receiving very little respect. IMO the 6 listed above could and should have all been in the top 144. There is no way all of those schools should be ranked below many of the teams listed so far on the Madness Top 144 Poll.

Not only will three of the above-listed teams be unjustifiably overlooked, but Rice was under-ranked at #139. I hope/expect the Owls (Texas version) to be a top-100 team by season's end.

(Marshall may also be under-ranked at #130, but I'm unsure how they will coalesce as a team w/o Kelly -- much like ODU's need to re-establish itself w/o Freeman.)

Here's hoping that we as a conference come out swinging hard in non-conference play -- and not simply save it for conference play.
