Yes, we're complete idiots because we never see "reality" like the other fan's view of our destiny...and when we finally accept a different outcome may be in our future, we are again chastised. I'm beginning to think ECU fans are pretty realistic and most fans from other competing schools are just insecure and verbally abusive to make themselves feel better. Feel better about what? I have no idea...but people who are insecure and verbally abusive have something else going besides expansion that makes them that way. Pretty sad that they point the finger at ECU, especially when ECU fans are downplaying their future, not glorifying it.

Was not running you guys down. Just pointing out that you are a resilient bunch and not suited to have your tail tucked between your legs.

Not if the AAC goes with a 10 team league model it wont, just has to look for one good program one that has decent market, improved facilities mainly an attractive football stadium and with future basketball upgrade blue prints on hand.

After many years of hoping the writing is on the wall for ECU. Lack of basketball killed us. I think Big 12 takes 4 ,3 from AAC. That means we back fill with Conf USA,a conf where teams are worth 200,000 a year and have a horrendous tv schedule. It really is imo,the beginning of the end of ECU athletics as we know it. Its already essentially ovee for every program outside of the AAC.

So its not about lack of optimism its just cold hard reality speaking.

If the Big 12 took this long to decide on expansion at all, I have a hard time seeing them growing by 4 teams rather than 2...

The obvious choices are BYU and Cincinnati, in which case the American only loses one school, albeit a good one. We'd only need to add 1 school to get back to 12.

If we were to lose 2, Aresco has already said we'd probably stay at 10, so we would not need to water down the league.

WORST case scenario we lose 3, in which case we'd only need to add 1 to get back to 10 schools.

Why limit to CUSA? why not look at all G5 schools, regardless of conference? MWC, CUSA, and yes even SBC to see who fits best. If AAC wanted markets they could look at ODU, GaSt, or F_U's.

We're not screwed until Texas flees to the ACC and Kansas and Oklahoma flee to the B1G and we get left out of that round of B12 replacing/expanding.

I don't see how it will be any different. We have a better chance than ever to get in a major bowl. We aren't and never have been at the point to compete for a national championship and if we somehow do for a few years it'll work itself out.

Basketball will still suck

There will be good programs left behind with ECU. Let's see Navy, Temple and whoever doesn't get picked up out of USF, UCF, Cincinnati, UConn, Houston, and Memphis. Whoever is left behind won't have any problems getting the best of CUSA to join such as Southern Miss and Marshall. Will still be a good conference.

Let's go with the worst case scenario; AAC loses 4.

Hard to project which 4, but most common mentioned seems to be Cincy/UCF/USF/Memphis OR Houston...

That leaves the American with a decent lineup, when you look at academic reputation, football, and basketball (and I know baseball doesn't move the needle yet, but it is growing):

Connecticut - #57 USNWR Rankings, 2015 Bowl Team, 2016 NCAA Tourney Team, NCAA Women's Champ, AAC Baseball Tourney Champ

East Carolina - #194 USNWR Rankings, 2014 Bowl Team, #1 3-year FB Attendance Average among G5 Schools, 2016 NCAA Baseball Tourney team

If BYU is among the 4 and we only lose 3, with 9 football/8 basketball, you don't HAVE to add anyone, you can play round robin in both major sports.
