Double-checking on CCU Baseball
I have not been able to find anything talking about the status of the CCU underclassmen draftees.

I figure Paez has signed.
Thought I read somewhere about "former" CCU OF G. K. Young, but never saw anything official.
Alex Cunningham...seen nothing.

Anyone help a brutha out?

RE: Double-checking on CCU Baseball
The starters we have returning are Seth Lancaster, Andrew Beckwith, Bobby Holmes, Jason Bilous, Matt Beaird. I might be leaving out some. But yeah, GK, Cunningham, and Paez are gone.

Just a side note to add ... Cunningham had a year of eligibility but was redshirted due to injury and has graduated.

Paez will make his Minor League debut tonight for the Mets Short Season A Affiliate in Brooklyn. He will play 2nd base primarily.

Here is a feature on him via ESPNNY

For those curious about why juniors sign and seniors are a big risk

Paez 4th round as a Jr. signed for roughly $475,000
Remillard 10th round Sr. signed for $10,000

That's true most of the time but there are exceptions. Humpal was a late round pick in 2015 (36th rd) but came back and was taken in the 9th this year. (slot was 167K)

First I know very little about the signing dollar amounts for baseball, but could it be that the Jr's sign for more because they can play college ball one more year an a different team could draft them the following year. Also the team that drafts them there last year of college own there rights from then on unless they are released or sold by that team, so therefore dollar amount they sign for could be less.

Most guys that chose to return after being drafted their junior year are usually taken by anther team unless that guy is so good they keep him on their radar and go after them the next season.
Humpal was drafted in 2015 by Cleveland but was taken in 2016 by Baltimore.

I'm wondering about Remillard. Was that a signing bonus or his actual get because that looks more like a 30-40 round picks monies than a 10th round. Humpal was just 1 round (25 picks earlier) higher.
Humpal 271 - 167K
Remillard - 296 - 10K
Something isn't right.

Humpal didn't sign for slot though. He probably signed for about a 10th of that. They used the rest of that money to give a bonus to some bigh High School product they signed I imagine.

What is somewhat surprising to me are the number of fairly high drafted juniors returning. TCU and LSU are bringing back a number of significant contributors. TCU will have nearly the entire first team they had this year.

This was supposed to be a "rebuilding year" for TCU according to some of the experts

Which is scary by itself, then consider they basically bring back the entire team next year. Having senior leadership and experience is invaluable.

Coastal was kind of lucky in that our guys didn't get drafted last year. The fact that many of their draft picks are coming back is amazing.

You're absolutely correct. Since the slot was put in a few years ago, teams have a finite amount of bonus money to work with. Teams are taking seniors higher in the draft now and paying them very little in bonus money so they can take the rest of the slot and use it to sign higher and better prospects. The good news for the senior draftee in the top ten rounds is, teams will frequently give them more of a shot since they were drafted higher.
