Per beat writer Munz on Twitter, UL cornerback Devontre Powell is transferring to USM for his final season. He chose USM over Appalachian St, SMU and La Tech. Powell said he chose USM as our current USM DL coach was at Louisville at the same time as well as he was high school teammates with one our of current players. He is enrolling in summer classes for the 2nd part of the summer and will eligible this season. As with many grad transfers the stats aren't usually there which is why they are most likely transferring. He's got nice "eye stats" in that he is 5-11, 190 and ran a 4.34 40 this past spring. But the obvious transfer stat (to me at least) is he only had 4 tackles in 3 games in 2014. It appears he sat out the 2015 season with a shoulder injury but says he is fully healed from that.

If nothing else, it will help with depth. Who knows, without the 2015 injury he could have been a breakout player who was just trapped behind depth in 2014.

Very true. He may or may not end up being All-Conference but at worst case he should add much needed depth or even be a special teams starter which he did mention in the article as one of the ways he was hoping to contribute.
