RE: Thoughts on AAC!!!!!
lets address what he's saying...convoluted though it may be

IF ESPN were to agree to a $10-$11 million per team deal with the AAC....that would be huge. It would be more than any of the other 7 dwarve conferences...and solidify us as a 'hybrid' P5/G6 conference.
The more respect the conference gets...the happier conference teams are...and the more stability the conference is able to generate. I'd have to think the fact that so many AAC teams want out into bigger conferences puts the ball in ESPN's court when it comes to actual dollars and cents in contract renegotiations. IF Memphis/Cincy or Houston were to leave...what would the AAC football be worth? My opinion only....not as much as our current deal, and that would doom it to G6 status for eternity.
If the AAC had all a happy and stable conference membership...then the tides turn...and the AAC holds all the cards in negotiations for a dollar figure.

Wow, from 'Locks' and 'I keep telling you we are locks' to this collection of hypotheticals, I think it is safe to say that we are not going to the Big12 anytime soon.

I still like our chances IF the Big12 decides to expand, however.

TC and the same ole BS. To think that ESPN is going to pay 9-10 million per team in a G5 conference like the AAC is the result of too much drug dreaming.

The truth is ESPN is in financial trouble.

If anyone ever believed TC then this should show his true colors, he is full of it, how can we be voted in and it be a done deal, then it not happen? Answer? He is full of it, we were and are the leading candidate for the Big12 expansion IF they expand and IF nobody surpasses us just before the vote is taken.

I hope we are in the Big12 tomorrow or next week, If we are TC gets no credit other than to make this board and our fans look like dolts for allowing him to post here

RE: Thoughts on AAC!!!!!
I for one am tired of all this Big XII expansion talk. Until their leadership (leadership, questionable) decides what they want to do, and get their sh!t together before it's too late, there may not be a BIG XII to worry about. In the mean time, I'll just be happy we're in the AAC (damn good conference) instead of being stuck in CUSA. The only thing I'm looking forward to right now is the upcoming Tiger football season, that for sure is the only DONE DEAL that's happening.....GO TIGERS

RE: Thoughts on AAC!!!!!
Unfortunately I think the B12 wanted to expand (at least a voting majority) but several very important factors put out the fire. Behind them all are the current market financials for TV rights to college FB. The rights have been over-priced & ESPN, FOX & the other major bidders of these rights can't sell advertising at sufficient levels to support the contracts. This confirms that the UT network is a bad deal but the financials prevent ESPN or another bidder from meeting the financial threshold to supplant the UT contract with a B12 network which might make more sense if the UT deal weren't so badly over-priced. This in turn makes expansion unattractive since it is only attractive to increase revenues & without a B12 network, TV rights won't increase above the proportional level the current rights contracts provide (i.e., expansion for the sake of treading water & UT losing voting control are not palatable). This revenue shortfall will also prevent the bidders from increasing the rights fees paid significantly enough in a follow-on contract to support expansion. And the poor showing of the college FB playoffs (especially New Year's Eve games) has confirmed again, the over-pricing of college FB TV rights. This does not bode well for the AAC (& maybe not for the ACC & PAC either). And it may well be the death knell for CUSA, SunBelt & some of the other minors because the bidding networks have already spoken in the substantial increase to get B1G rights & they will do the same for the SEC. But for other conferences P or G, it will be a tough road for increasing revenue - because the same bidders who will pay for the B1G & the SEC won't have the funds to make a similar increase in the rights agreements with the lesser conferences.

Notwithstanding the over-valued position of CFB in general, the command of the B1G & SEC to get most of the available $$, the AAC seems under-valued & may be able to garner some increase in TV rights fees - but it may take leaving ESPN to get it & that means coverage will suffer.

RE: Thoughts on AAC!!!!!
Or Espn can say since loosing alot of Big 10 Content, and With the loses they are taking with LHN, could up the ante and pay the AAC which is Climbing and performing and holding their on as a P5/G6....Also If Big 12 holds off expansion any longer, then the writing will be on the wal and OU will leave....And if OU leaves so too will Texas....Now KU and OSU might land with them and Maybe TCU but not many....So then the Big 12 leftovers would want to continue and Once again Espn could do exactly with them as they did with the Big East....Let Texas Keep LHN, let Big 12 Not Expand, and when OU and Texas Leave then kill the Big 12 altogether...So buy Paying AAC up to 10-11 MM per Team on next deal maybe 12-13 mm if they add A leftover or two from Big 12 once OU and Texas leave, and that would still give them Plenty of Content and Save them money.....PLus AAC will also be going Bold and Looking to becoming a Pioneer by working on a Digital Platform which could Involve Amazon/ Netflix/ HULU/ Youtube but they will be looking at digital platforms to go along with Next Tv Deal and create their OWN Digital Network Stand Alone Platform as well....No Limits....The World Is Ours Memphis...

We have a lot of posters whose contribution is "snicker" etc.... at least TC, although off base, talks about the Tigers without all the sarcasm, trying to be "cute". Okay off my soapbox.

RE: Thoughts on AAC!!!!!
The issue with all of the pay-per-view or other digital or streaming direct approaches is that they don't have the level of viewers to compete with the contracted networks, even with premium subscription levels. Example, ESPN would have to get $30/mo subscription rate (just for ESPN/ESPN2) to even equal their current $6/subscriber via the current cable/satellite pricing because of the much smaller number of likely subscribers. The AAC would need to find some means of securing 2nd & 3rd tier rights & reliably marketing them thru an Amazon, Netflix etc to increase TV fees but the value of such a 2nd-3rd market will more likely be beneficial to individual schools & not conferences like the AAC for the foreseeable future.

RE: Thoughts on AAC!!!!!
Here it is laid out plain and simple....Either Texas backs down and they expand which is doubtful, or OU will quietly look to leave and will do so and Texas would join them if that happens, and out of the 10 they got maybe KU OSU and Maybe TCU land but again Doubtful most of the others do so....So then they wold want to carry on with the Big 12 to survive just as the Big East tried too, but Espn already has the AAC and its climbing and Winning and BUilding itself into that P5/G6 Half and Half....SO Espn can pay them 10-11 MM per team and lock them up since all the content they will lose from BIg 10 and If AAC took a Big 12 leftover or two maybe get 12-13 MM per team which is a Huge increase but yet still on the cheap for ESPN who would keep more content, and pay less than what their paying LHN and BIg 12 thus still saving LOTS of Money....ESPN wanted Texas to END the LHN and Turn it into a Big 12 Network but Texas isn't budging, and Now Maybe Espn just breaks it up....Now AAC will create a Digital Network Platform and work on becoming a PIONEER in that......And By creating their OWN Digital Network Stand Alone Platform who knows how that will work out, but it is the future and where its all heading so to get there now only makes most sense....Plus your Right with that of an AAC Digital Network and going through someone like Amazon/ Hulu/ Youtube/ Netflix Ect...It means the Schools them selves could through that create their own and make their own deals which would fit best for each school and increase the school revenue streams themselves through other means like advertising and such.....Patience Is A Virtue....No Limits....The World Is Ours Memphis....
