RE: WKU Basketball in Final Two for 2 Five-Stars & a Four-Star
Lets put it this way if any other school in CUSA had hired Stansbury and based off his recruiting at Miss St I think 90% of Western fans would believe he must have broke a few rules to get that much talent to Miss St...HAD TO. I would be one of those 90% and I honestly think 95% up would think this.

So now that he's at Western I'm not going to all of a sudden believe he didn't break recruiting rules. Hell I firmly believe there's not a coach in this conference (or any) that hasn't cheated in recruiting. To me it's only depends on the level of rule breaking of cheating. I'm sure there's a few coaches that try not to but in my opinion...they all break rules.

But after 14 years as a head coach and not one NCAA investigation you can look at it this way...

1. Stansbury did not cheat
2. Stansbury is good at what he does and covers his tracks very well

Personally I'm OK with either of those... if it's #2 just don't get lazy at this time

As for hiring a recruits dad or godfather or brother or mother as a 3rd chair asst coach. If it means getting a top talent and it pans out. I'm all for it...was all for it before Western did just that (getting the kid is yet to be seen) and would say that if any school made a hire like that....

wonder why more schools not in a p5 don't do this more often. If it doesn't pan out, you hire someone else next season because all asst coaches are on a one year contract. And I'm sure in a hire like this they know the score. But then again they could be a darn good asst coach.

Recruiting is a huge part of the game and a coach should take every advantage they can. But you still have to coach these kids up and as any Western fan knows...I feel that is a big weakness. Hope I'm wrong. I've already been wrong once with this hire...recruiting way above what I though he would do (even without the 3 we are talking about) so we will find out about Xs & Os soon enough

I'm torn. I'd be for it if my school was benefiting from it of course, but having lost the #1 player in the country in 2006 because of this happening kinda makes me hate it too.

Michael Beasley was committed to us for a long time, then Huggins hires the assistant coach that was responsible for his commitment to Charlotte and we went from having a ridiculous recruiting class to basically backfilling with bad JUCO players. We got completely ******. It wasn't even that Huggins just hired him because he liked him. He gave him an absurd salary for his level of experience, all to secure that #1 player to Kansas State.

That was going to be our best class ever and instead it was one of our worst. We are still reeling from the effects of that disastrous recruiting class. 03-puke

Truly hoping this third assistant coach we hire is an X's and O's guy. Stansbury is a lot like Calipari. Great recruiter which helps them succeed, but not exactly a strong in-game coach.

Which is the opposite of what our last coach was like. Mediocre recruiter, but a great X-O coach.

Couple years I think. I just started following the program the year all this went down. It was my freshman year and there was a lot of excitement around the program. Some preseason pieces had us picked as a top 20 team that season (our first in the A10) and we had the #1 player in the country committed for the following season, along with commits and interest from several other very good players that Beasley was trying to bring to Charlotte with him.

Then Huggins struck and that class fell apart. We ended up finishing 18-12 (I think) that year and lost to Cincy in the 2nd round of the NIT. It has just been one kick in the nuts after another since then.

I wonder how long it will take $tan$ to end up in trouble. And I wonder how long the post season banc will be for WKU. What'd your thoughts? I say they have a solid year maybe year and a half before put on probation. Enjoy it tops

If it happens it will be a first in 15 , 16, 17, years depending on when it happened for Stansbury

I will roll with those odds...and as most Western fans know I'm not Stansbury's biggest fan. If he's cheating he's damn good at it

How many times has a team he's coached been in trouble with the NCAA?

Not jealous at all. Nobody will be able to mess with my team next year. I just want to see CUSA have genuinely good basketball teams.it will be a shame if you guys get put in probo for your coach being an idiot after he's already been busted. I mean if a single 5 star or former 5 star commits to WKU that's going to raise red flags right there. Better just hope he covers his tracks well. But oh yeah I'm real jealous buddy... get a grip.

What position you play so I can watch for you this upcoming season?

If these were just random players with no prior connection to Stansbury, I would agree, but Stansbury has existing relationships with these players from previously recruiting them and having the godfather of one of them on staff.

I doubt anything against the rules is going on here. If he hired the godfather for the sole purpose of getting a good player, you can make the argument that is a little sleazy I suppose, but it isn't against the rules.

Good for WKU. We need all the good publicity we can get as a league. Hopefully they commit and help you guys get back into the national conversation.

I'm impressed that he even has us in the conversation with these guys. I'm not sold on this current class but he was limited in what he could do in such a short time. He did as well as possible considering.

But to be in on the level of recruits he's in on has only happened at Western when Clem Haskins was head coach. To be honest Stansbury is in on bigger fish than Clem was except for maybe Kannard Johnson.

And as the Charlotte fan said. He has connections to these guys or hired assistants that have connections. There's nothing sleazy about that. Hiring coaches as assistants to get players was going on back when teams were made up of all white players back in the 40's and 50's. This is not a new thing.

I've always said it's about the Jimmys and Joes not the Xs and Os. Stansbury has mentioned it several times. Looks like he's going out to get some Jimmys and Joes. Or some Maliks and Mitchells.

You know you've never have had any big time recruits on your team when you make threads about them BEFORE they commit. Why not wait until its a done deal? This is a stupid thread.

Wow......are you lost? This is the CUSA Board, not the AAC Board. You should worry about Houston's mediocre basketball program for the last 32 years. Only 4 NCAA Tourney's and Zero Sweet Sixteens in the last 32 years. Actually, Houston lost in the first round in all four of those NCAA Tournaments. Wow, ZERO NCAA wins in 32 years.

FWIW, every Power Conference Message Board has countless threads about 5/4 Star Recruits being possible commits to their teams. Any team, whether it be Kentucky, Duke, etc. has fans that get all worked up about what potential 5/4 Star Recruit has their team on their short list.

I know Houston isn't much of a basketball school anymore so I'm sure your fans aren't big-time enough to realize how this works.

You obviously don't spend much time on message boards, especially in the weeks leading up to signing day. I'd bet dollars to donuts it wouldn't be too difficult to find examples from a Houston board.
