I heard they turned Printer's Alley into a private club of some sorts. I should have listed the Buc in my list of seedy places in that neighborhood.

Smart you are. Just about everyone has worked at Sears at some time in their life.
Try Broad street annex , then Crosstown and finally Poplar and Perkins.
Next , on to trucking industry. Good experiences all.
As I said, just about everyone has worked at Sears at some time in their life.
Hyperbole much? To my knowledge, I don't know a single person that has worked at Sears, and I know a lot of people, young, old and in between.
Well... You may have a point... but just about everyone has lived at Greenbrook Bend Apartments at one time in their lives.

Kroger just spent 4 million to renovate that store, and Walgreen's just finished a 200k remodel...the Pirtle's there is on point...so define "seedy"
200k.... what'd they do? Re-paint?

Back in February (or so), there was a shooting that happened on that side street next to PA's and Cleveland across from Crump. Some guy was shot over a piddly $15 drug deal and patrons from PA's were involved. They closed for a week and reopened with a $10 cover - $10 to get in with a valid ID, but your first two beers were 'free,' so essentially the cover is just two $5 beers and then normal price after that.
They give away membership cards (got one, holla) to regulars/people they know that bypasses the $10 'cover.'

I stopped going to that Pirtle's when I saw a baby roach in the kitchen area.

How is printers alley still open? That place is a drug den - besides the shooting and the girl who OD'd in front it should have been shut down a long time ago. The girl that OD'd had been accepted to grad school. What a waste.

RE: Sorry Memphis Miserables
The Crosstown area is about to explode in development once the Concourse opens, just like the Overton Square area and Cooper-Young. A lot of that land has been bought up by developers. Check back in about four years and let me know what you think. 3,000 people will work and live in the Concourse, and many of them will be moving to Memphis and have excellent salaries in the medical field. St. Jude's 7 BILLION dollar expansion over the next five years will bring 3,000 highly-paid, new employees to Memphis as well. There is not nearly enough housing of any kind for all those folks.
The houses in CY, in particular, have exploded in price. You can hardly get down the streets because of all the houses being gutted and remodeled.
Even my area, east of East Parkway, is experiencing an incredible leap in home values. Houses brought up to market standards are selling in 3 days, in bidding wars, and the average home, even in just decent shape, is going up $1,000-$2,000 a month in value. We are all getting postcards from house flippers.

Midtown inventory is low right now - and you're right, people are scooping up houses in midtown right now. Houses than have been on the maket forever are now being bidded on by multiple buyers. It has turned into a sellers market in midtown.

Yup, and there was a pool hall out east called Primetime that was the after hours bar of choice for the girls at Platinum.
