http://www.cbssports.com/college-footbal...s-in-2016/

by conference
SEC 6
ACC 4
Big 12 3
Big Ten 2
Pac 12 2
AAC 1

wait, I thought SEC OOC schedules sucked? This doesn't even include the end of year games.

RE: top OOC games
I wonder if Wash St is going to have it's "Texas Tech moment" this year?

(that of course is in reference to Mike Leach being the current HC at Wash St, running that same ridiculous offense, and the 2008 Texas Tech team that "woulda, shoulda" won the Big 12)

Their OOC games did suck for years outside of Bama. They still have those Nov. bye games....that is unless you are South Carolina then it is another loss.

Interesting! CBS only televises SEC games. So they find the only conference they televise games for as special. That's one hellava coincky dink there.

Cheers!

RE: top OOC games
I wonder what definition of "non-traditional" is being applied? Teams that have rarely or never met, or teams that don't meet regularly?

The Washington State versus Boise State matchup isn't exactly unprecedented inasmuch as the teams have played four games previously. If anything they should play more frequently given their geographic proximity (other than Idaho, Washington State is closer to Boise State than to any other FBS campus, including the University of Washington's in Seattle).

sorry but no difference between a Nov bye game and a Sep bye game. Much as I know you hate to say that.

or maybe the SEC does actually have the best OOC games.... you look at the list-
Alabama/USC
Ole Miss/FSU
Georgia/UNC
LSU/Wisconsin
Auburn/Clemson
are easy ones to see selected on the top 10 list. And Tennessee/Va Tech in Bristol is pretty easy to see as well. The only one that you can say is way better is Oklahoma/Ohio St- who they correctly said that may be the top game of the season period- not just OOC.

Sorry but that is just reality. You look at the Big Ten OOC schedule- and outside of the games with LSU and Oklahoma- there isn't much out there. Only other one that's good is the Michigan St/Notre Dame game.

Those should all be bowl games. No doubt the coaches agree with me.

It just doesn't do anyone on the teams any good to be putting that level of "good vs good" together that early in the year.

Good for the fans, though, and -- most importantly of course -- good for TV.

This

The strategy in the SEC is to schedule one truly great OOC game and the rest are wastes of time.

if coaches agree with you, then why does the top coach- Nick Saban- do it year after year after year? Next year you know who Alabama opens with? Florida State(who also schedules a good game normally early like that).

Never heard anyone before complain about good OOC games early in the season. Just blows my mind that anyone would do so.

Well duh - because Alabama is favored to win every game and needs a good looking non-conf schedule for the selection committee.

You think Saben prefers to risk losing early in the year? Please.

We can agree to disagree. Not going to derail the discussion of the top non-conf games with my personal opinion that such matchups belong in bowl games.

IMO no team should ever be selected for the playoffs unless they have a quality ooc game. If the opponent has a bad year I can forgive that, but I can't forgive a team that avoids tough competition ooc.

Washington is a good team- but Rutgers sure isn't. There's 3 real quality OOC games for the Big Ten this season.

ANY P5 team that wins it's conference and is undefeated should be in the playoffs, even if it has no quality OOC opponents.

But any P5 team that is 12-1 or worse, and wins it's conference, should be at the mercy of it's schedule.

Tennessee is good? Yet they are on that list. Also VT is pretty suspect too, their new coach has to prove that the Hokies are back to being one of the top teams in the ACC.

Tennessee is projected to be in the top 10 so yes. VT may be suspect- but they are light years better than Rutgers.

Tennessee is always projected to be really good. The problem has been that they haven't been. Light years better than Rutgers has nothing to do with that being a top OOC game. Yes the names are big but the teams aren't. Also we don't know if VT is lightyears better, 3 out of the last 4 years they were 6-6 in the regular season. Thats not light years in my book. Alabama is light years better than Rutgers. VT has been SLIGHTLY better. In fact just 3 seasons ago in the bowl game the two teams played against each other and VT won 13-10 in OT. So they were just slightly better that day and still are just slightly better today. I don't know if you follow college football but Mike Vick isn't the QB at VT anymore.

I think all P5 teams need to play 11 P5 opponents a year. No FCS and just 1 G5 team a year. I'd prefer 9 conference games but i'm okay with 8 if they play 3 P5 OOC games.
