And people act like UT is the only school to play non-D1 teams. I bet the majority of D1 schools play non-D1 schools. And part of it is NO ONE wants to play at UT. Yes, there are plenty of schools within driving distance, but those schools have to be willing to play and come to UT. UT can't just call up school X and say, "Hey, we have an open date end of December, come play at our school."

RE: UT’s schedule includes 5 NCAA tourney teams
The reason why MAC teams are playing NAIA and D2 teams is because the MAC Commish mandated that all conference schools okay a minimum number of home games and this is the best they can do. What he should state is that the MAC schools play only non conf schools with a 200 or better RPI, regardless if home or away. That would strengthen our overall rating as a conference.
Also, each conference school should play each other twice for a total of 22 conference games for all, no more of the half assed schedules where Toledo gets stuck playing Akron, Kent and OU twice while getting BG just once, and someone like Central or NIU getting the easier three of Buffalo, Miami and BG twice the top of the house just once.

D2 schools and below don't count against your RPI. That's why many schools like to get a couple of home games they can win.

UT’s schedule includes 5 NCAA tourney teams
Non conf schedule needs games to whoop on someone and to challenge to get everyone an opportunity to play

RE: UT’s schedule includes 5 NCAA tourney teams
1. Limiting MAC schools to only Top 200 opponents is crazy. The MAC teams will have to win games at some point.
2. Of course UT isn't the only one doing it and with over 350 D1 basketball programs, nobody should be having regular season games against non-D1 teams. My earlier post pointed out schools that Toledo hasn't played (like Lourdes and Oakland City), but this is a Toledo message board so the focus is going to be on playing Ohio Christian, an opponent who doesn't even recognize it as a regular season game.
3. Keep on scheduling non-D1 teams and keep on complaining about the MAC getting just one bid for the conference tournament champ every year.
4. Teams are not afraid to play Toledo like so many here think. I think UT does an excellent job scheduling in football and men's basketball, outside of scheduling the non-D1 teams. The basketball schedules last year and this year are a great mix of opponents on the level UT should be scheduling, minus West Virginia Tech and Ohio Christian as regular season opponents.

Teams do not want to play at Toledo. It's pretty simple. They all might not necessarily be afraid to play Toledo, but they do not want to play at Toledo. Some don't want to give up a home game. Some might not want to risk losing to a nearby school for recruiting purposes. Who knows.
This article is from 5 years ago, and it seems to only be getting worse. So it is not just a UT or MAC "issue".

RE: UT’s schedule includes 5 NCAA tourney teams
EMU scheduled 3 or 4 non D-I opponents last year. As mentioned before MAC schools are required to have a certain number of home games. It may actually be a better option than a payout game against a 300+ RPI team from the MEAC or SWAC, won't kill your RPI, not like that really matters.

Except for the last away game of the season at EMU (on a Friday), all conference games are either on a Saturday or Tuesday. No Wednesday games during conference play.

I don't know for sure, but it is possible that they will have some wildcard TV games again like last season in which they move games from Saturdays to Friday nights

The opportunity to have no one watch you on CBSSN is just too enticing to pass up. look for a couple Friday game.
