RE: UAB Gets Approval for $22.5M Football Practice Facility
The Board did approve $100 million in new bonds today for dorms and other amenities on the Tuscaloosa campus, however.

From the dollars mentioned here, you would have been close to half of the funding to follow a similar path to what Charlotte has done. I would have thought you'd look for an on campus, modern stadium that you would be able to fill and create an atmosphere would have been the desired goal for a relaunch. Am I missing something?
The board has said they will not approve bonds for an on-campus stadium. Our foundation is working with the city on a new open air stadium downtown next to the convention center (probably 1-2 miles from campus). It will start out at 45k (expandable to 55k-60k) and should have all the modern amenities and revenue sources (boxes, club seats, etc.) We would prefer a 35k on-campus stadium, but the one downtown will be a huge improvement.
The city of Birmingham was a powerful ally, from the mayor and council on down to the cop on the street. They wanted a new stadium downtown with UAB as its primary tenant, and that was a reasonable request given what they'd done to make this happen.

His body, not yet. The shriveled lump of lint he calls a soul? Decades ago.

in the ultimate irony, the unsuccessful attempt to murder uab football by the slime balls in alabama is going to be one of the worst things that ever happened to the rest of us. uab is going to be truly formidable very soon.

I don't think there was ever this much community support. Looks like you guys are still capitalizing on that momentum.
Any idea when you will hear something on the stadium? I'm very excited for UAB right now.

Some judicial "red tape" about a sales tax is holding up the stadium for the time being, but hopefully, that stupidity will be pushed aside before Autumn, & we'll be back in the high life again...Thank you and all of the other fellow Conference USA fans and followers that have kept a good thought for UAB.
