We scaled down the budget, but not necessarily the capacity.

They are still saying low 20 thousands.

But just ask Florida RedWolf. It will be 16k according to him.

I think you mean florida jag

No, I mean Florida RedWolf.

Good deal, happy you guys have cleared this hurdle. As I said, I'm pulling for you and would love to sign a series with you guys. It would be a fun trip.

Also, in case you didn't know, your former AD's son is our current starting TE, Ryan Yurachek. The kid is a player.

I understand the association with the Brooks family, but some sort of co-naming could be worked out, if not just for the field.

The stadium and field are already named. The "complex" is already named. There will be other naming rights I'm sure - but the most direct route would be sponsorship.

The Visit Myrtle Beach Bowl also has a nice ring to it.
Considering filling hotel rooms in otherwise undesirable tourist seasons was the original point of bowl games, this would be just about the truest bowl on the schedule.

Yeah, I knew his son plays for the Herd.

Yurachek's time here was interesting. I think he was absolutely the right guy at the right time - someone who could come in here and shake things up a bit. He helped professionalize the department in many ways. But his personality didn't seem like a great fit and it was pretty clear this was just a stop along the way. Seems like he's doing a good job in Houston.

Not having seen the new info, I have no guess. I think it's good you can now go forward. The strange thing to me is the Coastal fans kept saying the CHE was political in it's decision but then it was a very overt political effort which moved the expansion forward.

Yes... We had to fight politics with politics. And we won. It's mainly political with the governor. She appoints the CHE members. But when the vote went to the assembly, her (lack of) popularity here in the state showed when state senators from all over the state voted against her veto in favor of us when it really doesn't impact their areas.

Exacrly.. There was no way Coastal could win. The CHE made it seem like they were doing something beneficial for the state but most we're just puppets of the governor. That's why they wouldn't give us a figure - it leaves it ambiguous while not setting a precedent to be used for other projects. She wants to create a true Board of Regents and this was a way they were trying to force it to happen. The general assembly, people who actually know how the SC state politics work, recognized what was going and stepped in.

We had a great thread back over on coastalfans.com about our area trying to get a bowl and the possible bowl names... Some real gems in there. My personal fav was (you have to understand local issues/pet peeves but...) the "$20 Helicopter Tour Bowl"
03-lmfao

Some suggestions for names just off of the top of my head:

Free Hermit Crab Bowl
Wings/Eagles Bowl
99 Cent Sunglasses Bowl
Bottoms Up Bowl
Gay Dolphin Bowl
Cap'n Benjamin's All U Can Eat Bowl
Holy crap I forgot about the Gay Dolphin. Is it still there?

Pretty sure its not only there but renovated. The entire backside of the main strip has been turned into a New Jersey-esque boardwalk which is actually really nice. I never really enjoyed the strip, even as a high school senior and in college but the boardwalk makes it bearable.

Interesting both Myrtle and Wilmington on that list, my folks just retired to Sunset Beach in Brunswick Co (in between the two) and I believe it is one of the fastest growing counties in the US and both Myrtle and Wilmington are fighting over which MSA it should be a part of.

It's amazing to think back about how much Myrtle Beach has changed in my 35 years of fond memories of that place.

RE: An update on Coastal's Stadium Expansion
The JBRC approved the plan today and said to include some of the seats that were orginally taken out of the plan. The stadium is supposed to hold 20k+ and apparently NCST coming to Conway was a big reason why the JBRC said to add those seats back. They said they wouldn't come without 20k+. I'm not in the know on that so I will try to get some more information.

Yep Coastal went before the JBRC an told them NC State and other teams would not come to Conway without a 20K+ stadium. That perked a lot of ears up.

I never said 16k was for certain, only my projection. Thus far, I have not been proven wrong.

They mentioned in the meeting that we had discussions with NC State to come to Coastal but they, and other teams, have minimum seat requirements and they wouldn't visit if we were less than 20K. So it isn't a done deal but there have been some conversations.

They also mentioned that we had agreed to 20,000 for the SBC. We were asked if the SBC would kick us out and we said something like "there is no indication of that, but they certainly would prefer a 20K seat stadium". There was also talk of lost revenue and increased cost to add those 1,000+ seats in later. So they upped the project total about $2 million more than we went in looking for, we just have to pay for it with fundraising.
