Chip Long new offensive coordinator
I met Mr Long and he's a really nice guy who had some very good things to say about the team this year so I figured I'd share.
Riley Ferguson is a stud and has put on thirty pounds in the off season program. Said he's got his act together after leaving UT and working a year in a tire factory while away from football and is working his ass off, going to be a special player.
Said he's certain we'll be in the Big 12 and Fred Ex is making sure of it with a boatload of money, he did say that he's not in a hurry to get there and will enjoy dominating the AAC.
He said our skill players are better than what he coached during his 4 years at ASU which I thought was interesting considering what ASU has done offensively during that time.
Our back field is insane, Henderson is the man to watch out for and he's going to light it up. Cooper transferred because he got beat out for the job and with the type of runners we have says alot because Cooper was a legit back for us last year.
He's confident we'll be in there for the AAC title this year, this team will be very competitive and will win alot of games says our skill level is on that level, the Houston game will be huge.
Our weakness will be up front and our DB's, we're not very deep on both lines and our secondary. If we can stay healthy he said we should be ok.
He said we're straight up killing it on the recruiting trail though, after looking him up and seeing he was a Rivals and 247.com top 25 recruiter I'd be willing to bet that we're recruiting some studs along with developing what we have.
I know none of this is ground breaking info but I was so impressed by him that I just wanted to share this with yall and I could see why young kids would want to play for him, he's a very intriguing guy. He's got me pumped for this season for sure.

Information is a hot commodity. Thanks for sharing.
Good news about Ferguson. A summer spent pitching haybales certainly got my mind right for college.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Thanks, wild bill. By the way, I saw yesterday that Jarvis Cooper transferred to Central Arkansas (where he won't have to sit out a year). If our incoming stable of running backs was too good for him to receive playing time, as appears to be the case, we must be strong in the backfield, indeed.

Thanks guys for the kind words. The most surprising thing to me that he said was his remarks on the Big 12 and his perception of the AAC. Even though he's coached in several Power 5 leagues his perception that I took is that the AAC is a stout league that is winnable and we probably need the AAC more at this point in time as we build our program to a Big 12 level. I'd say by year three under these guy we would hopefully be at that point and have a top ten run like Houston had last year.

GA Remember I said Memphis and Cincy will still be 11 and 12 when the Big 12 decides to announce it.....I said last year watch out for Jamarius Henderson and that he was gonna be Special as will Darrell Henderson who was well worth the wait plus Tony Pollard will see some action in the Backfield too....And another one of my Buddy's Kedarian Jones and Jae'lon Oglesby who is also gonna be special...And Phil Mayhue is really turning it up and Daniel Hurd if he stay stay Healthy has a shot to really make a Statement.....Jared Gentry/ Donald Pennington/ and Guy was was talking about over year before he Came to UofM Khalil Johnson is gonna be a tear up up......Coach Norvell and this staff are Very Confident and have a Swagger which translets to the Players......As i stated before We are gonna have a even better year this year than last 2 years and are set up for it thanks to in part General Justin Fuente for BUilding the Team up and setting the Foundation, and to Coach Norvell and his staff for Recruiting their tails off and Upgrading the Talent and Skill positions even further this off season.....No Limits....The World Is Ours Memphis.....

Don't worry, old friend, I won't be forgetting that. I try to live in accordance with the cardinal virtues defined by Socrates: justice, temperance, courage and wisdom. Patience is, as you say, also a virtue, but it doesn't come easy for me. I have a fever and Big 12 is the prescription.
PS - Those of you you who don't enjoy TC's posts can blame me. Several years ago, I saw his posts on the Rivals forum and told him where to find us. I appreciate his loyalty, enthusiasm, positivity and willingness to share opinions and information. He is a FANatic - so am I.

If I remember correctly, Coach Norvell said this team was going to be special. This post makes two coaches now relaying that kind of information.

When there's a coaching change, I am cautiously optimistic. I see all the positive comments and articles about Coach Norvell, his staff and our team. I love how Coach Norvell has taken to the city and promotes it almost like a little boy opening his Christmas presents. I do look forward to the upcoming season and hope we keep the momentum Fuente started. Now we have momentum and need to grow our sports programs like Kudzu. Go Tigers!

"Jarvis Cooper transferred to Central Arkansas"
Interesting connection. I wonder, if our head coach had anything to do with it.

Not ready to believe the 'B12 certainty'. Hoping for the best, preparing for the worst.

That was my thinking as well. A quality program for him to transfer to, and
I wish him huge success.
