NCAA TOURNEY BASEBALL -ESPN -Control-but no money
ESPN controls rights to the NCAA baseball tourney. Some other games later on other espn channels. They have a monopoly.

SHOW ME THE MONEY.The NCAA must be getting something and I realize it is much less than basketball or football but still...something--espn is running and selling ads.

Think about it.We have four teams in the tourney.Even a few hundred thousand would help.Shoot- one hundred thousand.I understand travel, food, etc. is picked up by the NCAA.I have heard teams in the college world series may get a little money?

Someone educate me.Am I incorrect on this?

ESPN and the NCAA signed a $500 million deal in 2011 that gives ESPN the rights to 24 NCAA championship events and selection shows through 2023-24.

http://www.ncaa.com/news/ncaa/article/20...gh-2023-24

ESPN expands its exclusive final-round NCAA coverage with 24 NCAA championships:
• Fall – Division I women’s soccer; Division I men’s soccer; Division I women’s volleyball; Division I football (FCS); Division II football and Division III football
• Winter - Division I men’s and women’s indoor track and field; Division I men’s and women’s swimming and diving; Division I women’s basketball; Division I wrestling; Division I men’s ice hockey; National Collegiate women’s bowling; National Collegiate women’s gymnastics and National Collegiate men’s and women’s fencing.
• Spring – National Collegiate men’s volleyball; Division I men’s and women’s lacrosse; Division I men’s and women’s outdoor track and field; Division I softball and Division I baseball

In essence, ESPN is paying about $40 million per year to cover 24 NCAA championship events. There's some money there to pay for expenses, but it's not a crazy-large pot that they are throwing around money like football can.

But, with 4 bids. I am sure that something should come out of it.

The NCAA doesn't work in a linear fashion as ostensibly hoping that they should as this thread would indicate. Their revenue distribution framework is actually a very complex matter.

There is no parallel funding stream comparable to the Basketball Fund. That fund is managed independent of the other sports (and then of course the NCAA doesn't actually control the money on football).

The Basketball Fund is one of several NCAA funding streams to conferences/teams. Student Support, Conference Grants, Sports Sponsorships, Grant-in-Aid are some of the others. Revenue generated by the NCAA isn't necessarily accumulated and dispensed by sport (basketball being the exception). Perhaps on the accounting side the NCAA maintains a list of revenue/expenses by sport but to my knowledge that's not something they ever talk about.

Instead, resources are all pooled into a large pot and then dispensed accordingly through the aforementioned funds based on many different variables.

The NCAA makes nearly 300 Million in revenue off the Men's basketball tournament alone, that's how the idea of a Participation fund got started.

In other sports, NCAA units are usually not awarded, but the NCAA does pay for the travel of participating schools to their events.
