Aresco To Focus On AAC Growth
(06-01-2016 08:22 AM)Chappy Wrote:  The only thing that bothers me about this whole Big 12 situation is that it's probably going to be bantered about until the end of their GOR, and their instability will likely be used against the American (since 5 or 6 of our members are routinely mentioned as Big 12 candidates) when Aresco returns to the negotiating table.

Even if they went ahead and added two schools and we only lost 1 or 2, there would be talk of going to 14, or talk of Texas leaving and needing a replacement, or talk of Oklahoma leaving and needing a replacement.

It seems like the American won't get a fair shake as long as it's rumored that half our conference could have a way out.

Then the conference has to give the schools a reason to stay. Until we have garunteed Championship access that ain't happening.

here's the reality you dont want to accept..sdsu never wanted to leave tulane and all, they just couldn't find a partner..there is nothing soured with sdsu and the AAC

if i was a betting man sdsu is likely hoping the mwc collapses so they can grab a team or 2 and trying the AAC again

and aresco has done a great job to date

SDSU has probably soured a lot more on the MWC after winning both the football championship and the men's basketball championship this year - their hard-earned reward? The 6th place AAC team in the Hawaii bowl on Christmas Eve and a 2-seed in the NIT.

I'm guessing that SDSU would readily exchange road trips to Logan, Reno, and Laramie for Dallas, Houston, and New Orleans if they could get those 2 or 3 western mates to follow.

1. To pesik, what a university says publicly does not necessarily mean that's what it's thinking privately. How many times does that need to be said before it sinks in? And, also once again, rowing and other minor Olys like wrasslin' (Wyoming fans love that one) don't mean diddly squat when it comes to conference alignment.

2. I'm not sure about two or three but I'll agree that if enough other western schools would join in, yeah, SDSU would leave the Molehill West in a heartbeat. Of course, leaving the MW is not what I've heard is on the horizon and that's from a couple very good sources. Rather, SDSU has decided that for the time being, it's just going to wait around and see if the B12 implodes as most of us think is inevitable. Then if your school is up to it, an entirely new conference will be created from the ashes. It will include the B12 leftovers plus the most valuable members of the MW and the AAC. Now that I've said that, if this board is like the MW board, fans of schools which have no chance of being asked to join will come out of the woodwork to say that's never going to happen.

a) what dont you get that they didnt have to say a single thing publicly..they didnt have to as adamant about their supports..Boise from the get go never released public statements of support...sdsu also didnt have to stay the few extra weeks after boise left..sdsu also didnt have to fly to the dallas to meet the AAC presidents after boise left to considered if there were options.. according to you sdsu lies to the media for fun?

there is a million signs that are well documented everywhere that sdsu and the AAC are on great terms and sdsu didnt want to leave...there is ZERO and i mean zero legitimate evidence that there is any bad blood..the Tulane thing is board room fodder and makes zero sense..you said your source said sdsu found out about tulane through the media...that made zero sense as sdsu was there when tulane was voted in and that is a fact..

you are clearly biased and have preconceived ideas you dont want to let go..i ask you to step back and look at the countless documented proof and the entire timeline and it is evident and clear how it went down

2) you keep saying rowing is minor, and that was my point, which is going over your head. there are numerous west coast rowing leagues..why go to a east coast league you supposedly hate literally one month after you left?? what benefit do you get from that.
what you simple cant understand is that is has NOTHING to do with rowing but what is gained from having a sport in our league. what it does is that it makes SDSU an associate member of the AAC, so sdsu can still be in the AAC circle and be in communication

i have no clue why you are making this seem like its something difficult to comprehend.

your theory is what sounds illogical with how minor rowing is..sdsu is soured by the AAC, has bad blood and sdsu just were able to leave. but would then go through the hassle of negotiating and forcing yourself to deal with the AAC administration who you dislike potentially long term ..and they are doing all of this for rowing??? please look at his with some logic

RE: Aresco To Focus On AAC Growth
I think that Aresco will end up adding a few B12 schools in a few years.

Didn't add this in my story but Mike Aresco said the American had 15% increase in revenue this year. Every little bit helps.

If your criteria were significant, Boise would be a top pick for any P5 conference. The reality is that they have zero chance.
Institution and resources matter....a lot. And that's ultimately why the AAC>>>>MWC. And that's why the notion that association with any single school (much less an AAU school) made them want to withdraw is ridiculous.
