Fleck should have offered this kid
http://highschoolsports.mlive.com/news/a...d-walk-on/

I know a little about this kid. 6'6" 220. Played WR on a terrible Norrix team that went 1-8. He had 600 yards and 3 TDs. Runs a 4.5, and won the 100 yard finals in the SMACC. 4.0 student with a 31 ACT. Great family, younger brother is a freshmen and is the true jock of the family.

My guess is we didn't offer in the hope he would come on the promise. Even if he didn't work out it would have been a good PR move to bring him here.

I was hoping we would land him as well. It's hard to pass up on a fast 6'6" receiver, especially a hometown kid. Didn't he camp at WMU? Guess the staff didn't like what they saw.

Could be the other way around, too.

Looks like he fell for the "Michigan Myth" regarding its undergraduate academics.

No offense to WMU, but the Promise pays his college. He's an A student with a 31 ACT. A UM sheepskin opens doors. He had a Harvard offer too, but not enough to pay it in full. Western could have had him with a scholarship.

His offers were from Ferris and Davenport. Nice of him to walk on to Michigan, and it's great that the Promise will pay for tuition.

However, we would have been collectively unimpressed had we offered him. We'll see how he works out at Mich.

You can't teach 6'6" 220 with a 4.5 40. We took a 6'6" WR from Portage and he became pretty good. However, he didn't run a 4.5 and he barely weighed 200 pounds.

CMU offered at the last minute as well. And I am not wrong about the Harvard offer. My source is better than what you're reading in the article.

The young man could have let Fleck and WMU know he was not interested in WMU academically and would not be attending, regardless of football.

As nice as it would have been to offer him a scholarship, and potentially see him in Bronco Brown & Gold, it's kinda like asking a girl to a dance when you know she will say no.

I wish him the best in Ann Arbor. At least the Kalamazoo Promise will pay U-M's ridiculously overpriced tuition for him.

Right, 6'5" 220, runs a 4.5. That's D2?

You're a moron.

Stewart is at D2, and he can't even win the job there. We had two players transfer to Ferris and neither saw the field. Vandort went to Hope and was simply another player.

Remember, our top DT was a 4th stringer at scUM.

Stewart will start at QB for Hillsdale this year. Only reason he didn't start at the beginning of last year was because of a more experienced QB in front of him but he ended up wrestling it away.

VanDort is at GVSU now and his transfer reasoning was mostly about workload. I haven't heard if they expect him to see the field. I did hear positive things about Bass transferring in for them.

Who were the two to go to Ferris?

I believe it was WR Justin Collins and Terry Easton LB
