Weird how easy that was to predict though, huh?

But since we're here anyway, and despite my feelings about attendanceball, I've gotta ask - so what? What if our AD or SID is going out and hand counting fans sitting around the outfield (or on their apartment balconies or watching via telescope from the library tower or the moon)? What would that mean? Philosophically, what should attendance numbers reflect? The number of people watching the game (as you've assuming here)? The number of tickets paid for (how most schools handle football attendance)? The number of people admitted into the gate? And if you have a preference from those, then why? What do (or should) those numbers mean? Especially to a casual fan (or decidedly non-fan, in this case)?

Attendance, in my opinion, means the number of folks who come to the park and buy a ticket or else admitted free for one reason or the other. It includes everyone inside the boundries of the facility and none beyond that whether in a helecopter or holding onto the tail of a kite. It is important to USM because we must rely heavily on ticket sales to support our program. Unlike Tech, we cant soak the taxpayers for millions on an annual basis to stay afloat.

It must be frustrating to you that the good taxpayers of Louisiana haven't arisen en mass to topple their overlords/dirty thieves in Ruston.

Taxpayer funding for college athletics.... If only people knew!!!

Yes, I agree 100%. The athletic depts at La Tech and its eight or so sister members of the U of La System along with Grambling and schools in the Southern U system are sucking the blood by the multi millions from Louisiana taxpayers. The reason nothing is done is there are so many of these schools that most legislative rep has at least one in his district therefore shutting off the faucet would affect HIS area and he doesnt have the guts to withstand the flack. The projected $600 million state budget shortfall for next fiscal year might just knock some sense into them.

Shameful...

If I didn't know better, I'd almost believe that legislators are representing their constituents.... the nerve. No guts at all.

Make sure to stay focused though: Tech is the worst offender of them all. By all means, don't lump those other good apples in with the bad one.

I guess we do agree on one thing, Tech is the worst offender as they do take more than the rest. The average working man on the street has no idea of this situation and the legislators are spineless in avoiding the hyenas that would scream bloody murder if they closed the purse strings.

I thought that was sarcasm

They probably fall under "unnecessary." Should have remained a JUCO. Why have 2 major universities 20 minutes apart?

Thursday's evening session (3rd and 4th games of the day) had 2,638. I would've thought there would be closer to 3K there but assuming the late start for USM kept people away. Even though USM isn't playing today I am still going to catch the end of the first game today and most of the 2nd game

If I had a choice between knowing who shot JFK, if aliens are at Area 51, or how EE developed his obsessive-compulsive disorder with Tech; I would have to go with the latter. I'm betting on Terry Bradshaw took EE's girlfriend after he couldn't get into Tech. Approximately the last 15 years he has popped up trash talking Tech at every opportunity on the Internet...it is bizarre and a little scary.

Your stadium seats about 1150 so those numbers must include the folks on the sidewalk, the street, and those sitting over on the railroad tracks.

eagereagle will be along any minute with his personal accounting for Tech's attendance. The true number will be in double digits per his scientific approach of counting the people in the stands one by one via the tv broadcast.

When I made my comment I was actually joking (I hadn't seen the earlier post by EE).

Weird how easy that was to predict though, huh?

But since we're here anyway, and despite my feelings about attendanceball, I've gotta ask - so what? EE is not a USM fan. Rather, he's a con artist Cajun posing as a USM fan. Have you ever noticed that not a single USM fan on this board has ever met him?? Whereas many of us LA Tech fans on this board know each other, nobody from USM has ever claimed to "know" EE personally, or even have seen him at a USM sporting event. He's a FAKE!!

I have to give EE credit: He's one of the greatest "sports message board" con artist's of all time. That will be his legacy. 03-lmfao

Agreed. Today seemed closer if not more than the regular season Saturday game vs Rice that was part of Eaglefest Weekend when attendance was 4,950
