Keep up Dowdy. If two teams leave, you are absolutely correct, there would be no incentive to replace them, just go with ten schools. IF only one leaves, your Commish and Presidents might want to replace that school to keep numbers even.

Thread title: Why Old Dominion might be the 11th school

NO! We already have a 150+ page S. Miss thread we don't need one for Old Dominion.
What else you got to do in May?

I honestly believe our administration would be ok with it.

I know the majority of the fan base would be willing to give them up if thats what we had to do to join the AAC.
It's a shame CUSA is your forever home

That's okay, because even our lowly CUSA Marshall team will continue to beat the ass of of you all.
Shhhhh this isn't between you and me, it's between me and Flyintheointmenthawk. I actually like Marshall as a program and respect what you all done. Just Flyboy here follows me around bashing NIU every chance he gets because I suggested a long time ago NIU might have a leg up on conference realignment because of our proximity to Chicago

All I pointed out is how delusional you are to think that.

Proximity to Chicago hasn't helped with attendance. Or heck maybe it has. Maybe you would average less than 5,000 per game if you were not located so close to Chicago.

So close being 1 and 1/2 hours.

RE: Why Old Dominion might be the 11th school.....
Right now adding ODU doesn't do ECU any favors and I would not be in favor of adding them or anyone outside the MWC, BYU or Army if we backfill at all.. However, who knows what the landscape looks like in 10 or 15 years time. I consider the monarchs different story than Charlotte. ODU has at the very least proven some staying power with their fan base. Its still early, but they've been playing football for a little while, unlike Charlotte who tried to microwave an FBS program and is struggling to fill their 15k stadium as they try to establish themselves in CUSA. ODU is also unique in that they have a market that is far removed from the two state power programs. It is a market with a lot of ECU alums as well. Charlotte has more competition, its a USC/ACC/NFL town and that will hamper the 49ers growth IMO.

ODU seems like the have the best long term potential in the c-usa. Even though their stadium is small, they sell it out with a crappy schedule. Charlotte might be #2. Southern Miss #3.

Why do you say this. I lived in the area for many years. ODU is a small player in the Tidewater area. It struggles with a major commuter school reputation. The football program has no momentum right now and they are struggling to be taken seriously by 757 talent right now. I sense of things was that there was very little community spirit for ODU within the Tidewater area. Plus they are going to lose about 25% of their current SPorts Budget because of a new law in Virginia that limits students fees for athletics.

ODU is a fine school that gives great opportunities for students who live in Southeast Virginia to attend college and earn a degree. When it comes to football however, I do not think they will ever prove to be more than just another school that jumped to FBS to late.

There should be no 11th school, if we lose 2 stay at 10, but if we were at 11 and Army continues to say no I'd have no problem with ODU being added. Largest market in the country with no major professional team, pretty solid basketball program, and a football program that I think has a ton of potential both in terms of being good on the field and actually drawing fans. They also already have a budget in line with most of the rest of the AAC.

Maybe if its just one, but I think pulling from CUSA hurts the perception of the AAC. Army does too but they bring a national brand with them. I would hope we would first test the MWC and AFA.

Look, it's clear ODU has tremendous upside potential. The issue is will ODU be able to capitalize and execute with that ? And with that unknown should the AAC take the chance?

Only time will answer that question and the the reality is, under the current circumstances, the AAC is in a position to be patient and let that play out.

Army doesn't hurt perception in any way. Yes they are bad but so what? They have a brand name and having both them and Navy in the league brings the full value of the Army-Navy game to the league, which under an old deal makes 5 million a year alone and is considered very undervalued.

You keep repeating it but it is simply not true. The numbers from 2014 said we already dropped the student subsidy from 75% to 65%. We only have 10 more percent to go and we still have at least 5 years to be in compliance. We did that without reducing the athletic budget.
