Chuck Landon talks about C-USA tv deal rumors
I don't know much about this guy but maybe some of you do. He says he has sources.
From the article:
"Then, in a recent blog written by the Virginian-Pilot's Harry Minium, the newspaper's Old Dominion football beat writer, he estimated the television revenue per school would drop into the $300,000 to $400,000 range.
Sources say it could, however, be slightly higher.
At the most, C-USA's new television contract could be worth $7 million. That would lead to revenue distribution of $538,400 per school. At the worst, C-USA's new pact could be in the neighborhood of $5.5 million. Divide that 13 ways and it calculates to $423,000 per school."

RE: Chuck Landon talks about C-USA tv deal rumors
"That's how irrelevant C-USA football has become nationally."
Totally off base. The CUSA TV deal has more to do with timing than anything else. CUSA just happens to be the 1st G5 conference to have their TV contract come up for renewal with the new uncertainty and unknown parameters that currently exist. ANY other G5 conference would have the same problem. If things don't change other G5 conferences will suffer the same fate when their time comes...

The conference meetings that are set to happen in mid May should reveal the details

Don't forget about the American Sports Network.
Could also involved a better digital network.

Yep the details should be out this week either in between or after the meetings that are set to commence on May 16th and are going to take a week or two.

Landon does say this---
There is also a fourth television partner, according to sources, that hasn't been announced.
So, Im guessing there may be a digital component that is going to significantly increase the availability of CUSA games. Perhaps its with ESPN3, or maybe its with College Sports Live (has a Roku app), Campus Insiders----or maybe something more innovative like Google or Twitter. The goldstandards mention of an email cancelling his digital network account makes me think the 4th partner is a digital platform because the MAC agreement with ESPN3 required that the MAC Digital Network be shuttered.

C-USA spring meetings start on May 23rd with the AD's, etc. The decision makers, presidents, meet June 6th.

Yeah, I've learned to listen to Marshall fans when it comes to "info" from him. Why in the world is he dividing by 13 to project per team payouts? UAB has been paid an equal portion throughout the current contract. Why would they be excluded for one year of the next one? Unless, he thinks someone is leaving and not being replaced. The notion that the big decline is about to happen is also incorrect. The contract has already been reduced by over 50% to around $6M per year according to Wood Selig. (Love him ODU. Seems like y'all got a good one). If the new contract comes in between $5.5M and $7M, then it held value or slightly gained. The financial hit will be felt with the loss of exit fee dollars, not contract valuation...assuming it's within that range.

Highly doubt ESPN is going to pay CUSA $4-5 million a year for 5 games...

Landon knows nothing. Worst local writer of all past or present C-USA schools.

That actually sounds like the digital component. EPSN/CBS/ASN for TV and then perhaps EPSN3 or Campus Insiders for the digital component.
If people are getting cancellation notice then a different digital partner is happening. CBS interactive is gone and a new digital partner is going to be happening.
