Wendy's is doing that as well because they can't find enough workers at those wages. So raising the minimum wage really isn't an issue in many of these cases.

I actually prefer the kiosks, especially overseas. Makes it real easy for me to order in English. I have no idea how to say 'hold the mustard' in Hungarian.

The kiosks probably also help Wendy's deal with employees and customers that don't speak English well.

Those front counter jobs were going away anyway.

You've just laid the justification for kiosks to replace all unskilled workers.

Unmanned kiosks are coming no matter what the MW is...simple technological progress...they've been in grocery stores a decade or more.

So what happens to the drive thru windows? Hopefully They put the outside menu buttons under a roof so You can use Them in Rain or Snow or No one will use the drive thru then. Seems like the drive thru would wind up being slower as too many folks would be studying the entire menu looking for what They want.

There wouldn't be someone interrupting my order to try to upsell me. This is a positive.

If you can teach robots to weld parts, you can teach robots to load a fryer or an oven (think the conveyor belt type like at many pizza places). A location can be 1-2 jobs to load supplies for the robots to assemble, and clean the dining room.

This stuff is so predictable. The results are always the same. But if you say it....its only because you are a greedy capitalist or a heartless meanie who wants to starve the poor. That's predictable too.

Your reasoning is ignorant of simple economics. What you are, by default, saying is, you would rather have 10 people working for $15 per hour and another 10 people on welfare than 20 people working at various levels of pay ranging from $7.50 to $20 per hour. Because it is CHEAPER to pay a worker $7.50 per hour than to buy and service a kiosk, but it is cheaper to buy and service a kiosk than it is to pay a worker $15 per hour. Furthermore, where is little bobby going to get any work experience while in high school? Nowhere. No one is going to hire a 16 year old $15 per to do anything because they don't know how to do anything yet that is worth $15 per.

So now you are going to (actually we are already seeing this) have millions of college graduates every May who have never worked a day in their lives expecting to step right in to the workforce with no experience. Not only do they have no idea what they are doing (as would be normal for a fresh college grad), but they ALSO have no clue how to be an employee, which is a totally different skill set.

Its amazing how well a company can do if their employees are trained well, courteous, can speak english, love what they do, and have no problems using the restroom of their natural born sex.

Probably not for prepackaged and standardized hamburger patties. I expect engineers could handle making a machine to cook those without much problem. The real problem would be packing bags and handlng orders...drinks..ect. Oh..I forgot...they already have gone to self serve drinks.

Yup.

Chick-fil-a does things the right way and they are rewarded. I have never had a poor experience at Chick-fil-a. I cannot say that for the major burger chains. From botched orders to rude employees and a messy dining area.

Had one "bad" experience. We had been running calls all day and hadn't had time to even go get groceries for the evening meal so we stopped by Chick-fil-a after clearing something like call # 20 of the day. They were super busy and got two orders out of four wrong. No big deal as we actually ate the meal in the engine a couple blocks away while waiting on law enforcement to secure an assault scene for us on a medical call. We stopped back off after clearing the call to get it cleared up, again no big deal. The manager on duty apologized profusely and ended up refunding the money to my guys and gave us all a bunch of coupons.

Compare that to the Burger King I dealt with a couple days later who pretty much decided they were going to make my Whopper their way instead of how I wanted it. Unfortunately for them I wasn't pressed for time that day so I turned around and went back to get it straightened out. When the manager I asked to see came waddling her fat ass up there rolling her eyes I knew this was going to be a different experience. When I said that the Whopper wasn't made right she said "How the hell do you know?" so I calmly proceeded to dismantle the entire burger on the front counter making sure that every component was far enough apart so there wasn't any confusion. I then asked her "Can you read? If so please read what is on my ticket and tell me how that is what I ordered." Got a refund and went on my way.
