RE: Basketball Starting Five Next Season?
I think Gordon will redshirt. I see Antunez, Sanford, Garber, Williams and Taylor starting, with plenty of minutes for Navigato, Lauf, Knapke and Roberts. Dz and Adway will get minutes if the matchup or foul situation dictates.

Newguypointguard should get huge minutes, maybe more than 40 per game. I still see Sanford starting. Statistically his best games were toward the end of the year and a year in the WR has to help.

Gotta have 3 perimeter scorers at least on the floor. Coach k likes guys who can move the ball cleanly and shoot. He also knows he needs the team to be tougher.
Roberts is the likely pg, coach k loves him, can shoot, handle, a coach's son, leader type. antunez will play and be a fan fave w his court vision and flair dont know if he beats out Roberts and starts tho. and dziewzerkawicz will see time at pg but coach k sounds like he wants him to be instant offense off the bench in a combo guard role. He seems like a gamer so he may be on the floor late.
Who said Sanford is slow? He was just a little freshman cautious and skinny. He will start and be one of our top players. Jonjon will start. Knapke will be versatile because he can protect the rim but has some inside out skills on offense, who knows what his breakout timeline will be. It could take another yr or two - garber was lousy until his 3rd yr, Boothe wasn't great until his 4th. I figure Taylor starts or least finishes. You gotta have your toughest strongest defender and rebounder on the floor in crunch time. Garber plays a lot, Navigato too. Adway should get in the rotation but may be another yr from having his whole game match his athletic potential.
200 minutes per game, something like this if no one gets hurt, Gordon doesn't surprise and we don't get a meaningful late signee, something like...
Roberts 22-24
Antunez 12-14
Dzersuisski 20
Jonjon 30
Sanford 25
Navigato 25
Taylor 24
Garber 20
Knapke 10=12
Adway 6
This level of balance in minutes would be a big surprise to me. Coach K has been pretty consistent since being here, having 3 players play at least 29 minutes a game, and the next 2 getting in the mid-high 20s. Typically 7 players have gotten at least 90% of the minutes - sometimes a lot more. The only year that didn't happen was his first season when about 9 players had pretty balanced minutes, but of course that isn't a season anyone would want to compare to.
Now, maybe he was just waiting for a deeper team so he could use more players and those past teams weren't deep enough. Will this year's be? Or, maybe he just likes to play fewer players as a philosophy. I wonder if that hasn't contributed to his recent teams' play seeming to fall off at the end of the season.

I didn't say Sanford was slow. Someone said he could start at point guard. Nobody on the team last year could guard quick MAC point guards. That was a big problem. Sanford is a shooting guard.
Sanford did the best job of any of the guards of guarding the point guards on the team last season a couple times when they made runs at the end of games Sanford was guarding the point guards.
His height advantage and longer legs can make up for less quickness in the half court set.
Knapke can shoot the 3 he hit 1 or 2 (I think it was 2) against Hillsdale in the exhibition game he played in.

I agree with northcoast that we are unlikely to see 9 or 10 guys getting regular minutes.
It's interesting that so many fans are assuming that the players we've never seen will be better than the players we have seen.

And, as northcoast rocket also pointed out, TK's penchant for playing with a short bench has resulted in Rocket teams that faded down the stretch--and not just last season. Last season was basically a 7-deep team the last 10 games, and we know how well that went. Now, I'm not saying minutes will be divided equally at all, but I do believe that we will need 9 guys getting SOME court time of at least 5 minutes every game next season if we want a shot at a MAC tournament run.

I believe that Sanford was our best defensive guard at season's end.

Knapke was 1-1 on 3 pointers in 8 minutes vs Hillsdale.

RE: Basketball Starting Five Next Season?
I'd like to see Taylor next to Boothe. And I left Lauf off next year's imaginary rotation. He will play a role. He was an offensive liability down the the stretch of games. Part of that was because Boothe and Jonjon were often the only options so Laufs limitations were more obvious. I think his hustle and grit is most valuable when he is on the court with p!enty of scorers. If Navigato keeps improving and getting stronger he probably eats into Jordan's minutes.

We'd all like to see Taylor next to Boothe but that ain't happening.

Didn't score much. A little over 5 as a junior, less that 5 as a sophomore. Knee injury as a freshman.
