AState gets Graduate Transfer QB
Chad Voytick from Pitt

http://www.scout.com/college/arkansas-st...0ec08e9a7f

We lost 2 QB's to transfer and dismissal this Spring leaving us without a single QB on roster who had thrown a pass collegiality. Voytick was a 2 year starter at Pitt before losing his starting job in the middle of last season. He is not guaranteed the starting job, but will be given the chance to battle Justice Hansen for the position this Fall.

Do you really think Hansen will be able to challenge him?

No

Our starting QB Play was a mess this spring. Hansen just struggled a little less so than the others. He needs a years seasoning. I think we're more willing to hand him the position if we knew we had Tabary available behind him, but with that out of the question, we simply had to get someone on roster with FBS experience.

While I agree with what you are saying, in defense of your QBs this spring, your defense is going to make a mess of a lot of QB play this fall especially if they are short handed in the OL for the game.

Good thing GS is deep and talented on the OL!

Absolutely. He was the best QB on campus and in the next to last scrimmage you could see he had a clear advantage. This move creates competition and ensures we have a backup that does not leave us in the position we were in last year when Fredi went down.

Caught your HC on AStateNation radio (95.3 The Ticket), and he simply said they had way to much talent at rb, receivers, and a senior ol to take any chances of not having a qb that could not take advantage of them. IMO that has been a problem, at least as far as the receivers the last two years.

Poor Fredi gets no credit at all. Wonder how many points we would have scored if we had had a QB.

You are going to find out this year, because another bothersome question was how many you would have scored without your defense.

He was an outstanding athlete, but his short comings in the passing game was a real liability.

Yes, A-State could, and still can beat SBC team's with one hand tied behind their back, but their fans are really going to like being able to fully utilize one of the best receiving corps in college football.

Your coaches and newest QB knows what everyone will know after next year.

Per Voytik: “It’s a great opportunity for me. They just had some quarterbacks leave recently and are surrounded by some athletes that are the top in the nation as far as their abilities....". His source.......your coaches.

Your HC stated on the radio that they had "to much talent" to chance not having good play from the QB position.

He also stated 'sell outs '. Outside of the Memphis game, none were technically sell outs.

Right but compared to the way most crowds look in huge stadiums he played in I'm sure they look like capacity crowds. Apparently he feels he missed out on the college game day experience of playing on campus, at Pitt. A-State is lucky to have such an environment, for fans and players.

Whenever a team brings in a graduate transfer, that tells me you are probably trying to lessen the chance of a bad situation at that position. I said the same thing with Georgia State's QB transfer.

Just so no one thinks I'm being inconsistent, I think that very much applies with our wide receiver transfer.

Usually you bring grad transfers in because of an immediate and emergency need. In our case, both backup QB's leaving at the same time, leaving us with one healthy QB on campus certainly represented a problem.

When two of the three abs the coaches say are in the hunt for the starting job leave IMO that is a bad situation. The plus is that they have more talent at the position than they did last year.

As far as their other transfers it appeares to be just a case of some outstanding players wanting to find another place to play and picking them. Lucky them.

I do want to add that I thank many posters here don't really appreciate the magnitude or the impact of the tangible improvements, and commitments they have made across the board to their program and they are now reaping the benifets in recruiting.

Kids like real tangible things and when they see outstanding facilities, championship rings on players hands, fans in the stands, etc. it makes a big difference. Right now they are simply getting it done in the areas that impact recruiting better than their competition and that is job #1 in football.

We had two QB's on the squad with snaps in an FBS game one was dismissed after falling from 1 to 3 on the depth chart (and some non-criminal but stupid behavior), the other had been recruited to be a drop back pocket passer and realized he was never going to start in our offense and transferred.

Having a QB who has actually been in an FBS game was a high priority!

Yup, if Hansen went down, our options would be a walkon redshirt freshmen, a redshirt freshmen getting over two hip surgeries, or a true freshmen. That could be a bad situation that we definitely want to avoid since we don't know how any of them would perform.
