Most off base post of the year.

Not at all. cal paid lip service to "we must focus on the football program" then at EVERY opportuinity hindered money from entering into the program. While the blame goes to the AD and the athletic department in general, they were in his back pocket so it was still by his direction.

The revisionist history or just plain ignorance of what was happening during the program around 2005 is laughable. Coach West tried to over-recruit in 2005. He went after 4* and 5* players, often being listed as their second choice, but in turn missed out on many 3* player he possibly could have landed. But at the time, the facilities at Memphis were horrible for the football team. Their locker room was a joke at the LB and practice facilities were equally as bad. Remember having to practice in the spring at CBHS because our field was flooded. While he did change after his heart procedure, it was years of dealing with an inept athletic department that frequently lied to him that lead to the final years under Coach West.

Tommy West brought us 5 bowls in 6 years, along with kids like DeAngelo and Gostkowski...that's what I choose to remember.

I'll never forget beating Mississippi in 03 at Memphis, and 04 in Oxford...beating Louisville...the bowl games.

Danny Wimprine never led the NCAA in passing at any point in his career.

It was RC's (and/or Shirley's) decision to allow Cal to run basketball as he saw fit. Cal wasn't responsible for sucking the life out of FB, it was our inept leadership at the time.

It was my opinion at the time that it was probably the best Tiger football and basketball had been in the same years as long as I could remember. Then Tommy had the heart attack and recruiting dropped off and the rest is history.

So I guess you could blame RC for TW's heart attack? I mean I know you have to blame RC for something.
