UMass lost 1 million in TV revenue and probably about 800K in CFP payouts when they left the MAC. I know they have some big payday games but those games come with expenses as well.
I'm sure they can soldier on for a few years as an Indy but if these good schedules keep them at 3-4 win seasons and the AAC does not get blown up they are on a long road to being Idaho...

You wish, we'll get an additional pay day game at 1.5 mill which will cover for 95% of that and picked up our on TV media deal. Probably not much money but coverage on local TV. Guessing the 6 games are all our home games in item #3 in our Chancellor's letter on page 2 of this thread.
Just to remind you, our last game in the MAC was against a team that need it for 6 wins. They had the game at home and guess what, they lost to UMass.

Oh grow up..
"I wish"
No, I don't... I don't really care enough to wish it. Just stating a fact. You can pout and pretend I'm somehow against you for stating facts but the reality is what it is...
Unless uMass stars winning a lot of games 6+ a year or the ACC gets blown up life is going to get very hard for that program. I hope I'm wrong.

Might UMass make the decision to pull the plug on football or go back to FCS? Sure anything is possible.
UMass faces a very different scenario from Idaho. Sure both had the independence issue in front of them but UMass has more scheduling options. They have the flexibility to deflect someone's concern over travel by saying hey play at Gillette, the NFL doesn't have any trouble getting teams in there. They don't have the issue of the nearest viable airport having a runway that is too short to take off with a full load of fuel.
UMass has greater scheduling opportunities.
NMSU starts off with two games on the slate. UTEP and New Mexico. They have better proximity to other FBS schools than Idaho.
Very different situations.

RE: OT: UMass Officials now calling for the Minutemen to Bail Out of FBS
UMass' faculty has never been particularly supportive of FBS. Its one of the issues for UMass. Not critical at this time.
Where the existence of a loud and vocal group that appears to be opposed to UMass football can come into play is if the program finds itself in more trouble.
If they go 0-12, if they end up on probation - no matter how minor, if they have trouble with attendance, etc., then the fact that there's a vocal, visible, and consistent group against UMass football can give persons who want it shut down or downgraded someone to work with.

Attendance should not be an issue for 2016 with Boston College and Mississippi State coming to Gillette.
To be clear, it's a small group of UMass faculty. They are embarrassing with comments about guilt by association, opposition players are 1.5 to 2 bigger than us, etc. You'd think after their 4th attempt, they'd be more polished.

I'm blown away by the willingness to speak without knowledge by some professors. One just said UMass opponents were 1.5-2 times bigger

UMass has their schedule filled through 2019. Very different.

One of the dumbest message board things ever is when a people complain about a thread topic. I have never understood how and adult can not restrain themselves from clicking on thread with a topic "they dont care about". If you dont care dont click and STFU.
