I know it'll be a bitter pill for many vandals to swallow, but I think getting back into the big sky and reestablishing connections with regional schools like EWU, the Montanas etc is going to be very beneficial for the Idaho program

Generally speaking, FCS is a money loser.
Idaho is about to test the theory I've been stating publicly for the last 3 years, the President who announces he's dropping football or dropping back to FCS is a President preparing for life at another school..
I'm already reading that many boosters are up there are going to pull support, and football season tickets are going to be given up

I agree. In the long run this will likely be the best move for their program.

They are in a different situation entirely considering their geographic location. They were never going to get a MWC invite and the Big Sky is a really good fit for them.

That is probably true, but their options are very limited. Indy or Big Sky? I guess the pres thinks a stable conference is better than the year to year unknown of the Indy route. Also, IF they lose 50%+ of donors how much is that?

They never really gave themselves a shot playing in a 16k seat covered stadium. This seemed inevitable but very sad for the true believers.

Well screw them they aren't fans.
I wasn't happy when AState was reclassified. I bought tickets and donated even though I wanted us to move back up.
Indy was a suicide mission.
MWC if vacant was going to look at NMSU and Texas schools before Idaho. That's exactly what the WAC did. It wasn't until they had exhausted calling several Sun Belt schools and losing UTEP that the WAC finally made the call.
I'd rather lick my wounds and live to fight another day. It's not like Idaho ain't gone down this road before. This will be the FOURTH time they've left the NCAA's top level for football.

Correct - if they had built a new stadium when they moved to I-A in 1996, they would have had a chance at the MWC.
But they doomed themselves to this by staying in the dome, which is not a FBS level stadium.

Not cool. I disliked and fought the 1-AA/FCS thing from the day we were kicked down in '82. However, I bought season tickets and increased my donations relative to my income every year. Bottom line, you're either a fan of the program no matter what the level, or you're not. It's as simple as that.

I always thought the kibbie dome is a neat little venue (I would bet playing in a control environment year round is nice)
Hey arkstfan, remind me of the WAC play on sunbelters-I know they made a hard pitch to north Texas didn't they also try to reach out to Astate and lala?

Independence would have met sacrificing their players way too many times. Best of luck Vandals.

I am sure they are still predicting the entire Sun Belt will be forced back down. I have not been on that site in at least three years. I think I checked it just to see the reaction of GS and App moving up. Other than that cant remember my last visit. Depressing bunch of success hating ********.
Idaho will not save any significant money by moving down but they will be more competitive. FCS is not that much cheaper. It only frees up 20+ scholarships. They will also have to cut a girls team or two to save additional money now that they freed up 20+/- guy schollies.
Guess it is better than not having any football and now maybe their alums can travel to away games. You cant have just one foot in the FBS you are either growing or headed back down to play VMI and the like. I am kind of bummed we don't have the plans drawn up for the next stadium expansion. Folks like pretty renderings.

28 teams have moved to FBS, 1 team has dropped down to FCS. Bet they love it though.
