450K - 100K = 350K best case scenario, which is a little over 1% of our budget. It's really not that big of a deal. an extra 350K is nice, but not really enough to get too distracted by.

Well, I can you an extra $350k at ULM will go a long way. We can increase assistant salaries and use the rest on recruiting budget and travel budget increases.

Like I said, its nice to have. But its not an amount that deserves all the heat and fire that it generates.

What if they offered your school the extra $350K to not be on tv at all this year. That $350K suddenly seems like not much.

We are in a situation where we need our league to be visible. It needs to be on the screen in more homes and more sports bars and get more promotion.

I'd gladly give up an extra $350K in trade for more slots on the higher level channels and more promotional slots on their various channels.

I don't care if we make $350K less than someone else if we are on the screen in bars across the country and the someone else is rarely seen.

Build a brand...wring more dimes out of it later.

RE: SBC TV Contract Question
Seems like the issue is the SBC doesn't get enough eyeballs. Whose fault is that? We don't promote our players from a marketing standpoint. We don't promote our coaches from a marketing standpoint. We just turn our product over to ESPN and say here go get us some viewers. Not going to happen. We need to pool money together and get a marketing campaign going so that we can get some eyeballs. Otherwise, we will continue to see weak payouts.

Be interesting to know from a budget standpoint, if MAC and CUSA teams have to spend more for participation. I think the MAC probably has the tightest footprint, but they may require more sports. CUSA may require more sports as well. If they do, then travel cost will build up and overtake TV profits.

If it's all based upon conference games then travel cost shouldn't matter. I wonder if we could get the broadcast rights for non-conference games played against other FBS schools we all play at home.

Most of that is on the schools. Arkansas State has marketed extensively this season and has ensured that all our home Women's and Men's basketball and baseball games were put on ESPN3, attracting even more eyeballs.

Every other school in the league has the ability to do this because our TV contract allows it. Outside of Georgia State and App State televising basketball games this year, no one has taken the chance.

Do you guys have to cover the production aspects of that or does ESPN cover the production?

SBC Has control of TV rights for all OOC home games. If ESPN does not select the game than the host school has the ability to sell that game off to another network to televise.

Again, if you want to throw stones, look at your own school and ask why you guys haven't done that.

Shared cost between ESPN and the league office. Only thing we are out is for paying the people who produce it, and since ours are all student created and run, that means we're only compensating whoever calls the game.

Not throwing stones, just inquiring. Apparently, low ratings is not a ULM specific thing it's an SBC as a whole thing.

I believe we can do the production in a similar fashion as our Radio, TV and Film Department can take control of production and we can retain a broadcast team to do the on-air work.

Thing is, our ratings are actually higher than a lot of what CUSA got this past year.

No one watches it unless they have a desire to watch. Boise gets eyeballs, Northern IL gets eyeballs. Some others get eyeballs. We have good talent Asa conference and our conference games are competitive. We just need to keep winning our OOC games.

Both Boise and NIU have cracked the BCS recently. If one of our teams cracks the BCS, their eyeballs will go up as well.

Think YouTube, ESPN, or a new service.
We're already in the best situation with what is currently offered as far as streaming goes.

And live steaming has been twitter's core competency since its inception?

What? I didn't say anything about Twitter.

His point was that company models change and while Netflix and Hulu currently don't live stream they may be looking for live streaming content in the future.
