He isn't the only reason Houston's recruiting has improved.
Sure, there are other reasons. But, he's the primary reason
1. Herman
--
2. Every other reason
1. UH rich football history
2. Sexy new football stadium
3. Houston 3rd/4th largest city in the country
4. #1 largest city in Texas
5. 2nd biggest State in the USA 268,580.82 square miles
6. Football State
I like coach Herman, he's done a phenomenal job no question but almost any head coach with some football brain cells could do just as well in Houston now or perhaps even better due to the new football stadium.

Herman will get offers every year.
There's about 12-15 programs I worry about -- essentially the schools that: 1) have won multiple national titles, and 2) draw 75K+ per game. But several of them just made new hires.
Herman truly believes that Houston is an easier road to a NY6 bowl than most of the P5 schools. And we're paying him serious jack and building him the IPF he wants.
He could leave at any time, but I really think he'll be here several years until the perfect opportunity comes along. He just did an hour long program for students of the Bauer College of Business with the Dean. A coach who is looking to leave at the first opportuntity doesn't engage the community like this. Sumlin didn't. Briles didn't.
Oh, and don't forget he's got a big carrot to stick around. If UH gets a P5 invite on his watch, he gets a $5M bonus.
If you are correct and he does stay then Houston will have a P5 invite coming soon...I honestly believe he's like Urban Meyer was when he was coming up at BG and Utah. Herman is going to be a college football coaching legend. I think he's gone to a P5 heavyweight though if Houston doesn't get the call up soon. He's just too good. Hope you are right!
Cheers!
Lol this sounds like Baseball Tonight guys talking about this guy is going to win the Triple Crown this year 9 games into a 162 game season. The guy is a good coach, that is obvious. But good lord, he has coached ONE year. People are falling all over themselves, better hope he doesn't go 8-5 this year. You know Kevin Sumlin went 12-1 too at Houston.
Actually, he went 11-1. He wasn't our coach in the bowl game. And that was his last year, not his first. Just FYI.

He started 12-0 and lost the conference championship game. We went 13-1 in 2011.

Thanks you beat me to that...it wasn't Sumlins first year, it was his last year.
Cheers!

Then when he leaves the cougars for the NFL he will still be in houston ...
... or more like, Herman will remain in the state of Texas entire career.

I wish they'd show the recruiting stars before they pick the college AND AFTER..so we'd see how a 3 star recruit becomes a 4 star by signing at a P5 and a 4 star becomes a 3 star when he picks a non P5 school. It's getting so absurd. Houstons class last year was phenomenal but the player's ratings dropped after they officially signed. It's total bullsh!t
Cheers!
A couple of examples from last signing day (blue line is 247Sports own ranking, green line is a composite from multiple services)::
Now compare that with Tyrie Cleveland, who decommitted from UH late in the process and wound up signing with Florida:
Ranked 48 nationally 3rd in AAC per 247
Ranked 58 nationally 3rd in AAC per Rivals
AAC getting better
its great to see memphis recruiting well, to me that has been my biggest worry with them, you guys have everything you need to be a great football program (money, fans, brand)..except the ability to recruit. if memphis can recruit the ability to have sustainable success dramatically grows
What is really good is the improvement in the program. UH had a number of horrible seasons after the SWC folded. But starting with Briles first season,UH has had 8 or more wins in 8 of the last 13 seasons with 4 different head coaches. It also had 2 13-win seasons and played in 10 bowl games during that interval.
Herman had a great first year, but he did not recruit the players that won those games.

USF wont rank high this year. Were looking at some jucos to fill holes, and those wont count, along with we will have a small class of about 15. Lots of interest but we always close late. Sucks being in Florida because it seems like UF, FSU and even Miami get their pick first and then USF grabs all those mid level guys.
I still expect a good class, but with all the coaching changes again, it will take time to build up relationships.

Thanks. For a lot of reasons, other than a occasional success, Memphis football, has either shot itself in the foot or had a poor administration. Now good administration (president, etc...) Community and corporate support. The Tiger has awaken.
