UTSA beat ODU 7-2. ODU loses the series 1 game to two, and the Monarchs' RPI plummets from 25 to 48.

4/15 - 4-17 weekend baseball action

Never seen a season where that's been so persistent like that.

With that said, we sit at 4-11 (which is probably one of the worst conference records I can ever remember us having) but don't be surprised if we go 11-4 down the back half and finish .500 in the league and maybe even make a run in the tournament. I have a sense this young team may be turning a corner. Time will tell.

But if you're going to be bad... Then being inconsistent is a good thing!!

I agree with you though that there is still potential for a solid run this season.

First time I miss almost an entire baseball weekend this year and considering USM lost a series I must've jinxed us.....then again, UAB seems to have our number so maybe it was meant to be. Anyway, next weekend in Hattiesburg should be a great series against Rice and to see how we rebound after losing a series.

Had not been to a MT baseball game this season until this weekend. Went Friday and Sunday. We are very young. Friday night I noticed we started 4 true freshmen and a sophomore. We'll take some lumps this year, but the next few years look promising.

Baseball America:

Rice-13
FAU-21
USM-Dropped out

Honestly, I think FAU and USM should switch spots.

7-0 after 3. Runs have come off of a three-run homer in the first and a grand slam in the third (after two walks and an error).

Tim Lynch seems intent on setting some kind of individual game record. He's now been hit three times in his first three appearances. Blazers walk and hit the bases loaded with one out AGAIN....but two straight strikeouts from the two guys that hit homers earlier.

UAB pitching has walked 18 USM batters and hit eight more through 21 innings. ... and we are fighting to avoid a sweep.

Our pitching was gutted last season. Fun series over all. Pretty shocked we played as well as we did. I still believe Southern Miss is the team to beat this year.

Congrats on your series win, Blazers. We left 26 runners on base the last two games, including the win. With our up and down pitching staff, that won't cut the mustard in the long run. McCarty, who in the previous two games was rocked, pitched masterfully Sunday in the 11-0 shutout....

Gotta quit striking out so much with runners on base. I do like that we have finally started to try and steal a base or two. We've even had a couple of big scoring opportunities go to waste because we couldn't get the bunt down.

I do agree that we have a great crop of youngun's.

I didn't see/hear Saturday's USM during game action but saw somewhere where it said we left at least 2 runners on in 5 or 6 innings. That is one recipe that will catch up with you against good teams.

What is even more worrisome is the outings from our fri/sat guys. Hopefully just a hiccup.

I do think FAU may be a little overhyped but they do have those 2 wins in Starkville. We'll find out who is better next week in Boca.

Between last season's basketball loss and dropping two of three this weekend, ODU sure manages to fumble its NCAA hopes away when it plays UTSA.
