RE: So you think you have problems with your local P5 school
If you are ever in WV and buy a can of soda, on the top of the can you will see a small outline of the state of WV. This is a $0.05 tax levied upon every can of soda sold in WV. Guess who the recipient of every single penny is? Yup, WVU. Thanks Senator Turd (Byrd).

You find it's almost impossible to get idiots like this out of office. Texas recently elected someone who wanted it taught in history textbooks that the dinosaurs went extinct because they didn't feel like having sex on Noah's arc. Arkansas recently elected a state senator who believes slavery was the best thing to ever happen to African Americans.
These local elections in counties that are heavily controlled by a single political party can lead to some strange results.
Texas also has a congressman that wants to not allow women to get grants for stem cell research. That they should go to men because woman are taking away male education opportunities and women belong in the house, cooking, cleaning, making babies and taking care of them. Well, this guy is a former coach and associate ad at lsu, and represents a district heavily populated by lsu employees. That pretty much guarantees the election of an idiot.
He won't be re-elected because he's reached his term limit, but he can always go out for another office. And another idiot can take his seat after

RE: So you think you have problems with your local P5 school
In a worst case scenario, couldn't the two schools simply become associate members of the Belt in football & Hoops?
This bill may be preposterous but the financial situation is graver than some on here prefer to admit. Illinois is going through a similar crisis and the impact is hitting home for a number of public schools.

Lol...I always get that one wrong. And it usually takes a lot of effort to spell 'probably' well enough so that spellcheck can even give me the correct version....so there's that too.

RE: So you think you have problems with your local P5 school
I would actually support something like this were it to be applied across the board to all NCAA member schools. It may make sense for the "money" sports to fly all over the country, but not the volleyball or wrestling teams. I fly a lot for work, and it amazes me how often I'm sharing a weeknight flight with a random university lacrosse or softball team. I see at least one college team bumming around Hartsfield-Jackson on a layover ever time I'm in Atlanta - which is multiple times a week. It has got to get expensive.

That easy to say when you don't constantly have a top ten softball team or a very competitive baseball team year end and year out. This bill which wont pass would kill two very good sports at our University like the current #3 softball team in the country. JMO

Baseball isn't a revenue sport and I'm excited that ULL will be visiting Statesboro this weekend. I enjoy that part of our new conference and would hate to lose it.

They could still stay in the SBC. They would just have host nearly all the games at Lafayette or Monroe. Maybe play some in Shreveport so they would not have all home games. To keep them I am sure the other schools would be willing.....

we still would get the same amount of subsidy from the state, we just would spend it on something else instead of travel. This isn't a proposal to change our budget...it's a bill proposed to tell us what we should and shouldn't spend it on....dumb...very very dumb. The state wouldn't save a single penny if this passed tomorrow....every public school is allowed to transfer 3% of their total budget to athletics regardless.

we have only tcu as a local p5 school and they are a very expensive, small private school. and they have always seemed willing to play us in sports and I think we have a good relationship with them. on the other hand, over in dallas is smu another small expensive private p5 wannabe school that we dont seem to get along with. neither one are in a position to pimp us over in austin but we compete with them for area recruits. there are probably 50+ high schools in the area tho so there are a lot of prospects.

Do you actually believe that the other Sun Belt schools would be willing to give up their home games with ULM and ULL, in order to keep them in the Sun Belt?
I don't believe that at all.
If this law was ever passed, ULM and ULL would be looking for a new conference home.

So you think you have problems with your local P5 school
Speaking of problems with in-state P5's, there are some early rumblings coming out of Atlanta that Georgia may try to restrict the % of student fee $ that can be used for athletics. I think the legislative session is over for this year, but this might be worth watching for FY18.
Sounds like Kirby Smart is bringing more ideas from Alabama than just changing open records laws to benefit the Dwags! Already starting to not like the dude, hope he's an epic flop up there.
