IDK, Crystal Skull could have been but wasn't--even though personally I didn't find it that bad and I own it on BR and dvd. If the original three were set in the mid to late 30s and Skull in the late 50s... with it being almost 10 years from that one to this new one I wonder if they are going for a late 60s early 70s story... And to think about the material postulated in Ancient Aliens on tv, I wonder what they might go for in this one.
I'd rank Temple of Doom > Raiders of the Lost Arc > Crystal Skull > Last Crusade.
*Yes, I didn't completely feel Last Crusade like I know a lot of the fans of the movies do.

WHAT?!
Raiders of the Lost Ark - One of the greatest films ever made (not exagerrating)
.
.
Temple of Doom (An ok sequel, at best. Did you see this one first?)
.
.
.
.
Last Crusade (Had its moments but generally felt like a money grab.)

Crystal Skull (Complete garbage.)
I have little faith a new sequel with near-octgenarian Ford will be any good, especially if they bring back LaBouef.

I've seen a lot of hate for Temple of Doom and to some extent I get it. There are some really absurd scenes, mostly due to Spielberg's wife who doesn't hesitate to be incredibly annoying every chance she gets. But aside from her it's a really good movie and hits all the classic Indy beats.
I loved Last Crusade. A couple of the scenes were iffy, but overall it was a classic Indiana Jones movie. Crystal skull is just a complete joke

Agree Temple of Doom is several notches below Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Last Crusades. With respect to Temple of Doom, I did not mind Kate Capshaw so much, my bigger issue was with the sidekick, Short Round (the Vietnamese kid from the Goonies). His role in the film made it too cartoonish.
