Key Departures - Likely Replacements?
Braverman, Zamort, Beavers are moving on...who takes the majority of snaps at each position in 2016? Should be quality depth at each spot but curious who becomes "the guy" (or guys) at each position. I suspect Spring Practice will shed some light but I'm guessing there is a leader at each spot heading into Spring. Predictions?

Braverman's position is going to be a dogfight. A lot of speculation that we may see a guy like Levante Bellamy move into that position from RB to get your best players on the field all the time. Don't count out Keishawn Watson or Hunter Broersma though.

As for Beavers, I think we have a good battle between Kyle Knapp and Zack Novelselsky. Another name to look out for is Wesley French, but he may compete with Jackson Day for the starting spot at LG where Day was pretty dang good last year.

As for Zamort, I think it's Sam Beal's job to lose, however, Obbie Jackson had a real good red shirt freshmen year from what I understand, and Tyree Stone Davis and Ian Thomas have a bit more experience.

Also, never discount that PJ likes his shiny new toys. At this point, he really shouldn't have to play too many freshmen, but there is some talent coming in, and it might just be better than what we already have. Expect to see some freshmen all over the linebacking corps getting playing time.

Don't forget we are replacing Kendrick Roberts too. His blocking from the WR spot will be sorely missed. I do think Anton Curtis has the inside track on that replacement, but we could see Carrington Thompson and Kadeem Gouldbourne push for that position.

I would love to see Bellamy in the slot.

Bellamy could be a Reggie Bush-type player for us. Getting him in space would be great.

Great analysis, Stampede. I certainly did not recognize Roberts' ability to block on the wing.

I think you will get your wish at times. I don't see it as a full time thing, but I think they will look to get Bellamy the ball between 5-10 times a game in some fashion. I could also see incoming freshman Dee Eskeridge pushing for a few plays here and there in the slot. I think he's actually faster than Bellamy.

RE: Key Departures - Likely Replacements?
I echo the sentiments of wishing for Bellamy in the slot. He's fast, he's got the hands, he played WR in HS. He would be a perfect fit with his speed, quickness and elusiveness.

We will see a number of WRs step up after the loss of Braverman and Roberts. Anton Curtis and Kadeem Goulbourne are two that have a ton of potential. Keishawn Watson is smaller, but talented. Michael Henry is turning into a proven commodity as well.

Sam Beal is the likely replacement for Zamort at corner. He saw plenty of playing time as a true frosh. I like that we have depth in the secondary with Ian Thomas, Malik Rucker, Tyree Stone-Davis, Obbie Jackson, and more.

There are a number of guys that will battle for the LT spot. Wesley French, Zach Novoselsky, Elliot Jordan, etc... Jordan was the backup LT this past season, but I think French or someone else will win the job by the fall.

The defensive front 7 is loaded with talent and experience. There are at least 11 guys that will be fighting for starting spots on the D-line (Turner, Adams, Simpkins, Assuoa, Jackson, Braster, Matich, Balabani, Curle, Winston, Finley), and then add in the incoming freshmen (Aguirre, Asbury, Guillory) for depth. It will be interesting to see how that battle shakes out. My too-early front four starters prediction: DE Adams, DT Curle, NG Winston, DE Braster.

LB also has talent with Spillane, Lewis, Bailey, Rolle. Alex Grace will probably rotate in. Freshman Tristian Pipp enrolled early, could he be an immediate impact guy? The other incoming freshmen (Rogers, Culp, George) will add much needed depth and athleticism. Starting three will probably be Spillane, Lewis, Bailey...unless Pipp swoops in and earns a starting spot.

I really like the 2016 class and this team will be loaded with talent. Now let's stick it to Northwestern and Illinois!

If Tranquill is a 100% he takes over Atkins spot at S.

We have a lot of depth at corner. Might be a gamble but I'd consider bringing Phillips back to the slot.

I hope Tranquill is back at 100% by the fall. He's a talented guy, but his history of injuries is unnerving.

I have thought about this as well. I do think that he helps the team best in the slot, but I don't see him making the switch back.

I agree on Tranquill. I think we are going to see a big battle between Sam Beal and Obbie Jackson, and I definitely think Malik Rucker factors into that safety rotation.

I'm going to suggest that you can pretty much pencil in Tristian Pipp as one of the starters in that LB crew. And it's going to be for Austin Lewis. I wouldn't be surprised if every one of those incoming freshmen LB's gets playing time in 2016...

I figured Rogers would RS this year because of his injury, but if he's as good as they say (and 100%), I could see him getting the nod.

It will be interesting to watch this group in the spring. Bailey really came into his own this past season, and Spillane's injury threw a wrench into the mix.

So who will be the starting MLB? Pipp? Spillane?

My money would be on Spillane, Lewis, and Pipp starting at LB.

I think two of the three are right. Spillane in the middle. Pipp and Bailey on the edges.
