Quarterfinal Matchup: Charleston/Delaware
[Image: Charleston.gif]
Charleston Cougars

Record vs. D-I: 15-13
CAA: 8-10 (7th)
RPI: 126
SOS: 113

Coach Keatts has begun his UNCW tenure with a 5-0 record against Charleston. However, several of those wins have not been particularly easy. 2 of the 5 matchups were decided by less than 5 points, with the most recent, on February 20th in Charleston, finishing in Overtime.

Nevertheless, the Seahawks have the better squad, and it should show up in Baltimore when UNCW faces the Cougars (who I expect to beat Delaware fairly easily). Remember, in the CAA Tournament last season, UNCW exploded for a 79-53 win over the Cougars. Expect UNCW to take advantage of Charleston's inexperience, as 2 key freshmen Jarrell Brantley and Marquise Pointer have never played in a CAA Tournament game.

It's tournament time, and as much as Cougar fans love to wear their "Beat UNCW" t-shirts, I don't see it happening this time. The losing streak stretches to 6 against the Seahawks, as we vault into the Semi-Finals to face the Towson/Northeastern winner.

Delaware Blue Hens

Record vs. D-I: 7-22
CAA: 2-16 (10th)
RPI: 274
SOS: 131

Marvin King-Davis and Kory Holden have been great on paper. Theoretically this team should have done a lot better than 2-16. But they did not because of lack of depth (at one time they only had 7 scholarship players available) and poor coaching (this should be Monte Ross' final season).

I do not give them much of a chance against the Cougars as a result.

LOL true, I just assumed they'd beat Delaware. Plus I'll be driving up to Baltimore while that game is going on, so....

You guys forget that COC barely beat them(by1) and lost to them in their two meetings. This game is hardly a gimme for COC

I'd be extremely happy if Delaware pulls the upset. Anytime you play Charleston they're going to wear you down with their defense, and leave you in a weakened state.

RE: Quarterfinal Matchup: Charleston/Delaware
I hope after a close win and an overtime win, Keatts has a plan for these guys. I know CoC plays nasty defense and rebounds, but our big men have got to figure out how to hit two foot layups(Gettys/Bryan).

Out first win at Trask is when it was taking one of our players going off to win, and Flemmings had 25, and our 4/5 spot scored exactly 9 points.

Second win took OT, and our 4/5 spot scored exactly 5 points. RIDICULOUS.

We need to play with the toughness we did against Towson. Sherwood didn't even score in the first two games, but with his height, we need him in the game for defense, rebounding and scoring. Marcus Bryan didn't play in the first game, but he went only 1-6 in the second game, although he did snag 8 rebounds. Those two will be the difference in this game.

I predict we come out with the toughness of the Towson game and win this one 68-56. CoC should be tired after a late game and they don't have the bench to take us.

RE: Quarterfinal Matchup: Charleston/Delaware
Seems like a long wait for this one. I agree on the toughness angle, we opened 4 point favorite in Vegas so no one should expect a cakewalk in this one. C of C has a tendency to make you play ugly so keeping our composure when play gets ragged will be important. Hopefully, as you suggest fresh legs should work to our advantage.
