This was just announced minutes ago and while the reasoning hasn't been addressed, it's big enough to push back the announcement of the football schedules (which was supposed to be unveiled tomorrow) and King Karl is a part of it



Troy Schulte, beat writer of Arkansas Democrat Gazette, has speculated on twitter that it may have to do with future membership

Karl will announce the schedule was going to be released, but then the weather got so nice than he had to go golfing.

I highly doubt its anything important. Maybe Benson is announcing he's quitting (But I must not get my hopes up)

I can tell you it's very important and it had nothing to do with the football schedule release being pushed back.

Texas State beat writer Joe Vozzelli just tweeted that Texas State President Denise Trauth will be speaking along side king karl

Trauth was voted as league president last fall

Please let it be Benson announcing he's quitting.

My initial reaction is that the announcement is about NMSU and/or Idaho, but seem to remember that will be decided at the BB conference tourney. I have an idea, but will sit on ot til then

That's why I'm not entirely convinced it may have to do with NMSU/Idaho's future status (otherwise why give a specific date of March 10th as the day of the vote instead of being vague and say "sometime in March"?)

It definitely seems like whatever it is, it's something sudden and from the gist I'm getting its big...

If they are announcing early on NMSU and Idaho, it means we're renewing. You wouldn't kick them out early without going through the process of a vote and the two schools explaining themselves.

Okay, maybe Benson would, but normal people would not.

NMSU or Wichita State are involved in some way is my wild guess . . one has asked for Permanent Football Membership and the other has put out Feelers that it may bring Football back.

Isn't the Texas state president in charge of the expansion committee?

She is the head of the Presidents and Chancellors committee.

If we were announcing NMSU and Idaho were staying, then she would be needed to comment, and its something that NMSU and Idaho could some follow up with statements out of their presidents and AD's as part of a press release.

If we were announcing departure of those programs, the rumor would be out by now because both NMSU and Idaho would need immediate press conferences to keep their fans from rioting.

Expansion involving non SBC members doesn't make sense, we'd have heard something by now.

Commissioner leaving? It's possible. The timing is right, because they usually leave at the end of baseball season, and you want a new one in place around July 1 usually. Right now would give the SBC 3 months to find a replacement, and it would certainly require Trauth's presence.

Football TV Deals/Scheduling/Title game: Nope, all that is done through AD's and coaches and wouldn't require a comment from a school President.
