Simple, put all schools under LSU. LSU is the only flagship university and should manage every school in the state.

Yup. How can it get any simpler than that? 01-wingedeagle

That kind of thinking worked well for UAB, didn't it? 04-chairshot

All subjective.....we are noted as a top University in the Princeton Review, Louisiana Tech is not.....so what. You have lost a level of Carnegie Classification which in academic circles is what matters. Being mentioned in Magazines as this and that is the equivalent of having advertising billboards on a Highway....sorry buddy but you have been passed up.

Carnegie is subjective too. I never even heard of Carnegie, it has never even been mention at any Tech functions. But Congrats to ULL.

Tier 1 is what matters in academic circles. Being apart of the top 200 Universities in America

Graduation rates, Quality of incoming students (ACT scores) and Alumni Salaries aren't subjective. And Tech dominates the UL System in those categories and it is not even close with the other universities. That proves Louisiana Tech is the crown jewel of the UL System and the legislators know this.

1. You are factually incorrect, as usual: the T1 ranking includes 'feedback' from guidance counsellors, etc. The Carnegie ratings does not....their ratings are all based on objective measurements. The Carneige classifications are the cornerstone in academic standings. Period.

2. Lol: our graduation rates are basically equal....so are our admission standards, etc. Not that facts matter to trolls like you.

3. How many T1 schools are also R3 Carnegie schools? Zip. Zero. Zilch. Since the Carneige rankings come out every 5 years, ltu-r will be loosing that T1 status PDQ. They had already dropped about 10 spaces in the T1 category this year, and are at the very end of that list. Guess we should've known the Carneige drop would soon follow.

4. You also, again, left off that UL also has more research money than the rest of the ULS schools combined.
And that UL is a Rockefeller Institute of Government Top 100 public research universities, is a designated National Foundation Research Center and is a Top 10 fastest growing R&D university in the US. And that we have nationally ranked doctoral programs in Computer Science, Engineering, Business and Nursing. UL has one of the Top 10 Electrical Engineering graduate programs in the country. Our Business School is a Top 100 by Princeton Review. UL is the #1 on-line college in Louisiana and #39 in the country.

5. Your ignorance of the Carnegie ranking is not all surprising, but I can assure that that is not the case for the ltu-r admin. To that point, here is just one example that they have been using in their promotions, where it is not only prominent, but the first bullet they use:

How soon will they correct and update this to accurately reflect the new reality????

Better yet, when will you give us factual reasons as to why this loss of Carnegie classification does not signify academic decline at @ruston? Or any ltu-r troll can answer that as well. No one has done so to-date.

03-lmfao You think anybody that doesn't work in academia, sits around and talks about carnegie r2d2 ratings. 03-lmfao

These are the facts that are linked in the previous post. Tech has the highest grad rate, best students and highest salaries in the UL system. All facts and can be seen by all on the links I provided. Nothing subjective about those facts.

As far as "almost identical" grad rates03-lmfao Total BS It takes years of selective admissions to move a grad rate 5%. Tech has the highest grad rate, best students and highest salaries. Like I said before, make no mistake Tech is the crown jewel of the UL System. Good luck to all

Good luck to y'all with your ranking putting you on the same level as ULM, Sam Houston state, etc.

And good luck trying to pawn off these fake jewels.

If it were me, I would merge SUBR and Grambling under the newly founded HBCU system (just converting the SU system into a mix of SU and Grambling system) while consolidating SUNO and UNO. SU Shreveport would be closed. LSUA would be reverted back into 2 year school. After that, Nicholls would become a 2 year school and LSUE would be closed. From there, only ULM, ULL and LSUBR would be granted the ability to bestow doctorate level degrees. All other universities would be masters level institutions. As for Tech, I would send their engineering program to LSU and urge Centenary to merge with Tech, turn it private with a one time state supplement of the Tech budget, and move their operations to Ruston.

Centenary is not merging with anybody and wouldn't consider moving to Ruston. They're a private school and not associated with any of the state's higher ed systems so Tech would have to come crawling to them if any merger were to happen. And Tech's not interested in merging with another school to get an extra 600-700 students who are not wanting to have their education brought down a notch or two.

A lot of truth in your post. Not many schools....certainly not the much more prestigious private schools....would want to take over the dumpster fire of ltu-r. And who could blame them? After all the years of diverting large portions of state funding into their athletic programs, instead of academics, getting them back up to snuff will be a Herculean task indeed.

Looks like Nicholls may close temporarily.

I'm sure the Cajuns fans realize that the UL System Interim President is Dan Reneau. That's the former Tech president of 36 years. Like I said any plan that involves a consolidation of the crown jewel into another UL school is a non-starter

We'll a lot of those students will come to UL, or UNO. Well our enrollment is up to 17,000, well that should raise our enrollment, Tech has what 7,000 students well if they close Nicholls that could raise our enrollment to maybe 21,000. Then we could be 3 times bigger than Tech.

I'll take the best and the brightest out of Nicholls

So, what: are you little @ruston hillbillies proposing that DR should cheat to keep propping up ltu-r, with its declining academics?

You do realize that he is only the interim prez, right? His current role is that of an ineffectual pencil pusher, with ZERO clout....for which is is the ideal candidate.

A serious question. Have you heard anything about the athletic funding cuts? I know about half of techs athletic budget is from subsidy, so I was curious if there was any rumblings. Thanks

RE: The truth about higher education in Louisiana.
But those @rustons are only trying to avoid answering the all-important questions:

1. What has the @ruston president said about the loss of R2 status at ltu-r? And the fact that they are now on the same academic level as ULM?

2. How can the loss of R2 status not signify a decline in academic/research status at ltu-r?

Two very simple questions, that should be very simple to answer. Try answering without personal attacks on the person asking the question....or any other red herring ploys.
