RE: 1st Place Temple Owls
Temple is a team with a lot of guts and heart. But short on big man or inside game talent.
As far as the HC. This school should be bringing in better talent than it does. Nobody trashes Dunphys coaching.
With an aggressive recruiter we roll this conference.

I know Kenpom and Sagarin tell you the Owls don't belong in the same gym as your teams but my eyes tell me otherwise.
That's quite an impressive strawman you've built there! Although maybe, just maybe, you should win a National Championship before you start chirping to UCONN fans. That goes for fishpro too!
Yes, the old Natty. When you lose in this league, a lot of UCONN fans suggest its the league that sucks. But when you won the Natty in this league, it was all UCONN. You are 0-4 against Temple for a reason. The talent in D1 is not that far apart among most of the top half of conferences rated 4-7. And that includes this league. It ain't a cakewalk, and it ain't the conference. You are what your record is. Going back in time doesn't dismiss what you are doing today. Going to win this year's conference championship with that Natty? Talk about a straw man.

This and a lot of UConn fans like to ignore Temple basketball history and talk down to us. In general I like UConn and their fans but there is this type. Maybe they'll quiet down a little after we just dealt them 4 straight L's. Who's your daddy?

Congrats to Temple. Owls out-played and out-coached the Huskies in both games this season.

Don't worry everybody. We're going to beat Temple again next weekend and the race will be wide open again.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit, Houston has had a hell of a turn around and it wouldn't surprise me at all if next season at this time Houston is making a run at the conference championship.
I've said it in other posts, Houston is a blueprint for some of struggling programs in this conference to follow. Hire a top notch coach, bring in some transfers to make an immediate impact and hold the fort, recruit really well and in 2 or 3 years it will be turned around.

Top notch coaches don't grow on trees and the reality is that not only did Sampson fall in our lap but he may be gone to fill the half-empty Rockets coaching vacancy after he was an assistant if the wrong combo of things happen.
The turn around is not complete (it's been propped up by a mostly easy schedule and 2-3 credible wins) and besides, there's no one size fits all method for a turn around. For every Kelvin Sampson, there's a Coach Doh at SMU. For every up and coming hotshot former player like Billy Donovan, there's a Josh Pastner.

Wouldn't surprise me either. We were embarrassed at home by Houston. Up and coming BB team.

Up and down, we can't be losing to Grand Canyon and South Florida.

Realistically Houston could recruit 5 kids in walking distance from their campus that would make most D1 coaches salivate over. I can't understand how so many coach's aren't more successful there.

If it were that easy, Chicago State, UIC, USC, Miami, FAU/FIU, St. John's, LIU-Brooklyn, St. Francis Brooklyn, Hofstra and any number of schools would be perennial powers.
As a matter of fact, naturally many students try to get away from home for school or alternatively, some coaches are spooked away from recruiting players that will have their parents shadowing their every move and demanding their chid get playing time whether warranted or not. That was an issue with Tom Penders.

For many local inner city players that stay home (i.e. Memphis especially), while some parent(s) can be a pain in the A$$, many times, its their "handlers/AAU Coaches" that are much, much, much worse.

That too and, once again, that was was Penders' biggest pet peeve.

A Nova win would be terrific, but that's a tall order. I will say Temple owes this conference a tourney bid after we gave it a 9-22 season. No one saw that coming.

They were also routed by 30-ish at home by Houston and lost to ECU and Memphis. Who is their best win in OOC, Farliegh Dickinson? Their saving grace is that their OOC schedule was really tough, which is why as someone said they in a sense do owe the league a win over 'Nova.
It also wouldn't hurt if SMU took out Gonzaga.
When your OOC schedule is Prairie View A&M, FAMU, ULM, UT-RGV, Eastern Illinois, Nicholls State, NCCU, Wyoming, 2 completely average mid-majors in URI and Murray State, and your 2nd best OOC win is Grand Canyon University, I don't think you should talk down to another program for their OOC schedule. Congrats on beating LSU, but short of that, your OOC schedule would've been an upgrade if you replaced most of those teams with DeSoto and Atascocita.
Fact check: We lost to Grand Canyon. But we did roll you by 27 in Philly.

You still played a softer OOC schedule than my high school.

Not to mention their best OOC last season was 13-19 Texas Tech while we beat top 10 Kansas. They really shouldn't be talking OOC at all.

A nice win over USF keeps the Owls in 1st place, and the SMU defeat of Gonzaga should help our RPI (and Houstons and Tulsas)
Next up: Villanova at the LC. Kill the cats!

Looks like a Houston fan went to the USF football school of determining conference leaders.
