Go to the games and see for yourself, damn building is empty. Pastner has and is ruining our basketball program to the point that most don't care anymore. It's called apathy.

or back up what you say with facts.

Do you need a weatherman to tell you how many of inches it rained to know it is raining really hard? Attendance is way, way down, if you go to a game, a reasonably function person can look around and estimate the attendance is well, well below 10k. He is backing it up with facts, ie observable data. You arent arguing facts, you are debating sources (Vernon/parrish, or what posters are witnessing). If you need a trustworthy SOURCE that badly, go observe for yourself, I promise their are plenty of tickets available.

so you just trust people when they say how much something costs without checking the actual numbers yourself?

so....I'm gonna cut you a great deal on some swamp land in Florida...dude, it's just ripe for development...I hear Vernon and Parrish just got themselves a few acres...trust me, no way I could be wrong on that.

[rollseyes]I guess asking people today for actual facts has moved into the realm of insults[/rollseyes]

The attendance numbers were on the way. Did you see them? Sometimes it takes a minute.

Based on what he has seen as of today the school will not average 6,000 per game thus the school will not receive a $800,00 payout from the forum per the lease. The school also probably has not met the profit margins of the lease.

For the few Pastner pumpers remaining. The numbers don't lie. Go ahead and bash me if you want (I have been to every game and 2 road games), but this is very depressing. You obviously don't care about the school or athletic department. With additional lost ticket revenues, donations and other items it will cost over 4million per year to keep him

We have had home games with Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Cincy and UConn so far and we cant even average 6,000? wow

No and you know it. You were being a snarky a s s, not genuinely asking for proof even after you were told Calkins had a request in for the data.

Just quit acting like you don't understand. Geez.

The numbers are in and the only conclusion I can draw from your reaction to the initial post is that you don't attend games. If you did you would have seen it for yourself.

we do not have a weak fan base. we have a fan base much like that of 99% of other athletic teams. More people show up when you are good or give them something to believe in. I know that is shocking to some.

I don't think we are weak either, and I have long been a Pastner supporter. This year, for the first time in probably 30-ish years, I completely forgot about not one, but two games. One was Cincinnati, I would never have done that in the past. Hell, I rarely read the CA on line any longer.

I missed the Cincinnati game too. That makes three or four this year. The games I do watch, I'm usually cleaning the kitchen and stuff like that while it's on.

We do not have a weak fan base ... Calkins explains it quite succinctly: "But if there is good news in the numbers — and it strikes me there is — it's the reminder that, just two years ago, well after the departure of John Calipari to Kentucky, the program was still drawing more than 10,000 fans a game. Those 10,000 fans didn't all of a sudden stop caring about Memphis basketball. They just stopped believing in the coach."

If anything, our fanbase is stronger than the average bear....other programs would have seen an earlier drop-off, not waiting until 6-7 years in.

We have an oddly entitled fan base, often weak.

When things are going really well, our fanbase matches up with anyone, a real plus. We take a backseat to no P5 team in those circumstances.

When things are not...far too many drop far too quickly. Some of it is realistic, fans lose interest when teams struggle. Some of it is impatience, what have you done for me yesterday. Some of the basketball issue is an over reaction to a four year run of pretty much top ten all the time with a taste of number one. Some of it is much of the fanbase views university sports as just another economic option.

But it goes deeper than just a big fan reaction to last year's 18-14 team and this year's very likely similar result...something that I believe, and have always stated, should result in looking to change things.

Even when fairly recent teams were really good, if short of elite, fans moaned loudly. Same applied even when narcissist struggled a little as late as his fifth year.

Some of it is a nasty streak that has risen in general. It cannot simply be our teams have dropped to the point that absent a dramatic change here it is likely time for a change...it instead is things are horrible, the program was nuked and even more incendiary stuff.

Note...this is a comment about fan reaction. Not one that in any way shape or form is arguing that the state of the program is really good right now. It is easier snark to label anyone with some form of thoughtful response as a hater or an in the tanker.

Someone is a hater when they say hateful things...not when they make constructively critical comments about roster, game play, decisions etc...

Similarly, someone is in the tank when they argue that things are perfectly great and that the last two seasons especially are no more than a small glitch. Not when they recognize issues but fall short of mocking and bashing.

Overall, while we get that fans have turned their backs on the team and will argue that they are making a point trying to get a coaching change, the over reaction of that, essentially mocking those who, shudder, still enjoy games and discussions even while recognizing the big picture, brings our fanbSe down a large level.

Shameful to a degree.

Oddly, a post like this will stir up many...many who I refer to as thugs...AFTER they make similar or worse style comments. That little bit of irony is lost on many. As will the desire to read a lengthy post...few read them, they simply viscerally react to the poster. You know, a poster who, egads, attends nearly every home game, recognizes and even notes that this season's track should result in a change, yet, after snarky mocking and baiting, gives them a taste of their own.

And does indeed smirk when they get their feelings hurt.

On that, I agree. Definite bounce back in attendance when The Change occurs. As with everything else though, sustainability comes thru progress and success.

I'll ask you. Do you have season tickets that you pay for? Do you give a donation?

All these that are criticizing the fan base have yet to answer that question.

I knew this reply was coming, lol. No, you were not JUST asking tor numbers. The tone you took was clear.

Wow...school spent 12 years beating in the idea "if you don't show your work (math) or site your sources (English), you don't get credit"

Now we just assume everything is true?

I'll go right on dotting my i's and crossing my t's, thanks...it's never turned out bad for me yet.

No and you know it. You were being a snarky a s s, not genuinely asking for proof even after you were told Calkins had a request in for the data. lol, must be based on your women's intuition or something...because I simply asked folks to prove what they say...I guess asking folks to site the actual numbers is now considered defending that evil josh Pastner...and God knows we won't stand for that around here!!!!

Just quit acting like you don't understand. Geez. I understand the miserables well...after 7 years, I don't have a choice

The numbers are in and the only conclusion I can draw from your reaction to the initial post is that you don't attend games. If you did you would have seen it for yourself. I attend plenty of games and have posted plenty of crowd shots...I leave counting attendance to the people who get paid to do that...I paid money to be there, so I'm not going to do someone's job for them...you seem very offended...I like that :-)

Weak, even for you.

Are you kidding?

Generic critiques aimed at our overall fanbase being attacked, while nasty bashing of our teams and staffs get high fives??

Yes...TSF donor and we have six season tickets...football and basketball.

If you feel insecure as a fan....that is on you.
