RE: 2017 Official Recruiting Thread
One thing at the donor event Carey did say Saturday was a big day for them as they had about 30 potential recruits come through. Hopefully a nice day and our spiffy facilities sold a couple guys.

Dexter Warren. I picked it up on the general thread and posted it in the 2016 verbal thread, maybe start a 2017 verbal thread.

The 2017 thread has been started it just got buried and the mods never moved it to important threads. I'll find it and bump it up

Wow it's like that one kid from a few years ago who committed to us without an offer. How do people mix this up? Getting offered a scholarship seems pretty black and white no?

This goes along with what Edgytim was saying last year, that a lot of kids are reporting offers that don't exist.

Ya and what's strange is that if you're a recruit, how does going on social media and lying about a scholarship you were never offered help your cause? If I was an NIU coach I'd stop recruiting that kid immediately, huge character flaw issue right there. Just dumb

They're not all necessarily lying, some kids get offers that aren't committable (i.e., the staff won't take them but they offer to hold the kid's interest in case they decide they want him later on) and others get offers that are conditional (i.e., you get the grades, or add some weight, or whatever, and we'd like to have you play here). A few months later, those offers may still be there, but they might not be, either. There's also the whole verbal vs. written offer thing; a written offer is usually an indication the staff definitely wants you, a verbal offer may indicate the same, but it's easier for a staff to back out of if they want to.
It's not as black and white as a lot of people think it is, and these are kids who all want to play in college and they don't always provide the full details on what the offer was or what was really said to them. They just know "Coach A told me they want me to play there".

Maybe the kid was offered, I'm just saying what I heard. But social media does confuse things

Sorry, I wasn't speaking specifically to this kid, just in general. I didn't mean to imply you were wrong.

Only coaches know for sure who was offered but they are handcuffed in not being able to talk about recruits and who they have offered. "Official" written offers can't be sent to seniors to be until September 1st, thus all players, at this point in time, only have verbal offers.

RE: 2017 Official Recruiting Thread
With the loss of the Oregon St. kid, we definitely need a high powered QB in this class. There could be a couple lean years at the position after Hare graduates this year. Obviously the coaching staff felt that way too or they would not of pursued him.
