Oh the Irony
Ironic: the fans that don't go to games anymore because they want Coach Pastner fired have made it financially harder for the university to fire Coach Pastner.

Moronic: a contract situation that makes it impossible to keep your coach and impossible to fire your coach.

Scary: The fans aren't going, not to get rid of Josh, but because they longer care.

how? the money comes from 2 separate pots. the school losing money on the lack of attendance has nothing to do with the boosters paying out the contract.

And they will be the ones yelling the loudest when recruiting is not up to par due to their self fulfilling prophecy.

If Memphis were 18-4 and ranked then recruiting wouldn't be in the crapper.

Translation: ain't the fans fault.

I don't think the coach's salary or the salary for any replacement is coming directly out of the suite & concessions payment. I'm guessing the drop in ticket sales (which the school keeps completely) exceeds whatever cut comes out of the $800k.

We have a passive aggressive revolt from the ticket buyers. If the school keeps a mediocre coach on a downward trend because they gave him an asinine contract, they will continue to suffer at the box office. Write off the $11 million and pursue a better harvest.

Maybe...someone can bring up our coach's salary- because that has never been brought up before. Ever.

If Pastner was competent as a basketball coach his salary would never be mentioned. Ever.

The ability to think this situation through....is severly lacking in some. I guess they have not figured out that reality is dealing with $10 million. So, knowing that is a tough number....go support the team....is just seems to be a more logical alternative and....it is much less expensive for the university you supposedly support.

Negative.
The fans have a say. They choose to not go to games in droves. That reduces income which gets the school's and everyone else's attention. That, combined with the incompetent coaching, the running off of player after player and the failed recruiting, forces a change. It's now become cost prohibitive NOT to fire him. The school actually pays pastner roughly $200k with the remainder coming from boosters and outside sources.
New coach comes in and everything changes. Hope is restored and excitement returns before a single game is played.

If you can't understand that, fine, but that's on you.
