Temple Board approves stadium ...
The Board met on Monday and authorized $1 million for the design phase of the stadium. The new cost estimate for the stadium is now $126 million.
The location and seating remains the same as earlier.

The Board also stated that the stadium will also be available for local high school games and there will also be a strong retail component to the stadium.

All Board members voted yes. Groundbreaking will be in 2017, hopefully in January.

very nice, Temple...I assume this will be where greasey field (sp?) is? It's a perfect location by the basketball arena, right in between two subway stops.

I always figured Temple could build a 30k football stadium there for ~100 million

Thats for the link...interesting read....and certainly is a bit different then the title of this thread. (i.e. Board did not approve final stadium plans...they just agreed to spend $1 Million on a STUDY of a proposed stadium).

Great news! I haven't read the story yet, but I hope it starts out at around 35,000 and can expand to 50.000 (or 60,000).

That's because the final stadium plans are not finished. They approved the go-ahead for the next step of getting this done, which is the important part.

" available for local high school games and there will also be a strong retail component to the stadium"

OK everybody, what are the revenue items a stadium can bring to a school?

Greater student participation
Parking
Food and drinks
Greater support by alumni
NFL training site
Bowl game
Concerts

And what are the goodwill items?

Greater loyalty by alumni
Recruiting booster
Bringing money to the city by visitors

Congrats to Temple. Temple is and will continue to be an asset to the AAC.

I believe 35,000 seats just about fills the lower bowl of a football stadium. Will Temple be able to expand the capacity should a P5 invitation come its way?

Yes, that's the plan.

Yes, I think the plan is to make it expandable to high 40s to mid 50s. I think Louisville is very much our model.

What's the over under for Councilman Darrell Clarke's extortion? My guess 800K will go to a community outreach program that he controls.

The majority of students are in support. It's a few idiots who can't comprehend that Temple has been in North Philly longer than the current residents who came in the 40s and 50s.
