RE: Josh Pastner, Assistant Coach LA Lakers?
Serious question- what would Josh's role be in the NBA? What would he possibly add to a professional basketball organization?

I dunno. Take away the leadership, management, strategic aspects of the job. Give him very limited responsibilities and focus - make it more tactical. He would probably thrive. Scouting, or practice management, or etc.

He was regarded one of the top assistants in the country when he was hired HC. Primarily recruiting driven. But that's along the same lines. Limited, intense focus.

Was he regarded as one of the top assistants? He was third behind the brain trust of Antigua and slick Jr. Here.

Pastner was an ace recruiter as an assistant - probably the best in the country. He was a 3rd assistant, but if he can recruit like he did before under Lute/Cal as an assistant in the future (if he went that route, which I doubt) then he can make $1M a year and live a comfy life...

He'd have to be a total idiot to walk away from Memphis without being fired. He'd be making pretty good money with his $2.6M from Memphis and then NBA assistant money on top of that.

Everyone's kind of split on whether they think the administration will do anything after this season ends, and that's where it gets interesting. IF the scenario happened with Walton, a wise, pull-the-trigger administration would be penalized $10.6M, while a deadbeat, do-nothing administration would be rewarded with the best possible outcome -- Josh (or his future employer) paying us half a million to walk away.

With our luck, if it happens, I'd bet on the former.

So he's going to pay $500,000 for the opportunity to walk away from $10 million, and make about $300,000 a year as an NBA assistant coach?

You go on believing that. By the way, I can make you a really good deal on a bridge.

Well first, I think he'd be paid a lot more than that if it happened. Secondly, he's already made around $12M here, so he doesn't look at $10.6M the same way you do. And third, we're not dealing with a normal individual. It would not surprise me as much if Josh walked away from Memphis to coach in the NBA as it would if he stayed here and turned things around.

OK. So about that bridge...

He was 3rd because those others are Cal's guys - through and through. Cal ain't demoting them the way he did Strickland. Those guys know where the bodies are buried - and they probably have evidence.

Pastner was recognized by some as the top recruiter in the country. So, yeah, he was regarded as one of the top assistants.

He could get $300,000 as a video coordinator?
Can't see him in NBA; they have a terrible APR.
