Basketball is going to be a work in progress because we're going to need to clean house and build from the ground up. Get competitive, and then build the facility. Our basketball team also has to compete with what I would consider a competitive professional basketball team (yes, sarcasm) right up the street. Would the other CUSA team with the NBA franchise with anywhere near the amount of banners and success nearby please stand up? I didn't think so. It's a big money sport, and I understand the need, but we need to fix the team first, bring in the crowds and then worry about a facility.
Strictly my opinion and probably soon to be told what an idiot I am.
Gonzaga was built out of a high school level gym and in a far more remote location. You have the right attitude.
And to be fair, FIU and FAU have had an eclipse named the Miami Heat for a number of years until the past couple years. UTSA basketball will probably never come close to the level of the football team because of the Spurs.

Can I get some photos of these high school palaces? If they truly are as nice as some claim, I question the school's priorities..
You can start right near Houston with the Cy-Fair ISD Berry Center:
And throw in the Katy ISD Merrell Center, where the Southland Conference Tournament has been held in recent years:
been to those. they are multi use district wide facilities not built for one school. and it is easier to float a bond issue for a public school facility than to allocate public money for college sports in texas.

Well, while it is nice to revamp the baseball field on campus, they use the Wolffe Stadium currently for quite a few games so I would think the priority is the build a new basketball arena. It doesn't have to be big because you are not going to compete against the Spurs, but to build a 6k minimum arena would be most sufficient for UTSA. It would be the one thing that would hold back UTSA should realignment happen again. The facilities fit the Southland but need to be upgraded to the standards of most CUSA schools.

6k should realistically be a max. Just pay Troy for their architectural designs and use that. That's about the finest looking small basketball arena I've seen.

I really don't think Cameron Indoor Stadium is very big, is it??? It doesn't look like it on tv.

9100ish. Basically the same size as Charlotte's arena. I think it is all bleacher seats though, so that helps.

If you build it, they will come.
For the record baseball is limited to 11.7 scholarships and basketball has 13 scholarships.

Rice did okay with baseball, so kudos to UTSA for looking at upgrading their facility as well.

The day we put 56,743 in the stands....how many conference mates can say they have reached that number?

Is UTSA Baseball competitive? Yes. Do I think if the funds are available for a team that is competitive and requires an updated facility to keep/retain players/coaches to stay competitive, we should spend them? YES! Our Baseball field is an embarrassment and frankly our team deserves more. They're making fricken bricks with no straw (old school Charlton Heston reference), they've earned it in my book.

I recall that last year the Cajuns opened up the season at UTSA and one of your fans posted some photos of your baseball facilities. Very spartan. Yeah, time for some new digs.

You misunderstood me. As a fan of both sports I care most about Football and baseball, and want that to be our focus. I see very promising signs that UTSA will be strong longterm in Football and baseball.
Also UTSA won the series vs TXST last year.

Congratulations for your series win last year against the first TXST team to post a losing record in at least 10 years.
But we're still up 51-19 all-time, if you're counting at home.
Seriously though, it is time that you guys got a new field. Screw basketball, build the ballpark.
