Oh hell no.

The best outcome should we lose those two is ending up with the 3 academies. My guess, something like Army and UMass in the east. That give Army a division with decent geography where they might have a few games where they can be competitive.

Once Army is in place, you can probably attract Air Force if your willing to take Colorado St as well. Both AF and CSU would be full all-sports members (if they want).

With 2-3 football-only members, you'd have room to add Wichita and maybe VCU as non-football members to add some extra strength to the basketball side of the conference. At that point, you have a pretty solid conference, with a an actual national identity of solid academics and the academies, reasonable travel, and good media value.

If the AAC loses any 1 or 2 members to Big 12, they would be some of the strongest members, leaving the conference less appealing. Just what would the incentive be for Air Force and CSU to leave their home base, and join the AAC? I don't see it.

With the bonus system that locks Boise into making more money than Colorado St, the AAC equal distribution might be quite appealing. For AF, the key would be getting in a conference with all 3 academies. That would open up the AF OOC for more flexibility because the Navy game would become a conference game.

If not, then we'd be better off continuing on with just 10 or 11 teams (depending who is taken) over adding teams like Rice, a poor UTSA program, or a Wichita start-up program. Those adds just makes the existing conference seem and perform even worse. Im not saying that we can definitely get the academies, Im just saying that's probably the best possible realistic outcome.
